8:40am Saturday 26th November 2011 in York Senior League
LONG-SERVING player Matt Atkinson has been elected as captain of Pocklington Cricket Club’s first team.
Atkinson takes over the role from Alex Downey, who will serve as vice-captain for the 2012 campaign in division three of the Hunters York & District Senior League.
The new skipper said: “I am delighted to lead my home club as we have some exciting plans for the forthcoming season.”
At the club’s annual general meeting, members also elected Adam Thomas as second team skipper and Steve Relf as captain of the thirds.
Chairman Simon Hill said: “It is great to have Matt and Alex leading the first team for 2012 and we are confident that together they will strengthen the team and encourage new players to join us.
“This new partnership enables us to move the club forward at this exciting time for us.
“We are looking forward to a busy 2012 with a full set of junior teams from under-9s to U15s, three senior Saturday league teams and a midweek evening team.
“We intend to complete the next stage of our new changing rooms before next season and we’ve also invested in improving the square and covers for next season.
“We look forward to seeing lots of junior players at nets in the new year.”
