THE York & District Indoor Cricket League’s new season starts this week.
This established competition will be held at the York Cricket Academy, formerly the Dunnington Cricket Centre. There will be six games each Saturday starting at 9am and finishing at 3pm. The season will run for 22 weeks and will also include a knockout cup competition.
Again the league will comprise two divisions with eight teams in each. Division one has two teams from Acomb, and one apiece from Clifton Alliance, Hornsea, Thirsk, Selby and Welton who were promoted last year and league newcomers Beverley Town. Acomb ‘A’ will be the team to beat. Division two features Bolton Percy and Stillington, both relegated last season, and Civil Service, Ouseburn, Rowntrees, Stamford Bridge, Wilberfoss and newcomers Sheriff Hutton Bridge. Indoor cricket is an exciting and skilful game and there is room for spectators at the Dunnington venue, which is on the Stamford Bridge road about half a mile past the turn-off for Murton village.
