SHERIFF Hutton Bridge II began their Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division one campaign in defeat at Beverley Park.

In one of only two division one matches to go ahead following the recent wet weather, Town recorded a comfortable victory by 50 runs.

A half-century from Robert Fish (52) and 45 from James Emery helped the hosts reach 206-8, Mike Smith the pick of the visiting attack with 3-32.

Paul Oldfield struck 68 and Connor Campbell 34 for newly promoted Bridge but the chase was undone by Connor Bowden (3-40) and Greg Whyley (3-36).

In the other match, Auryn Murray (4-15) and Andy Holtby (3-21) ensured Sewerby left Pocklington with maximum points as they combined to dismiss the hosts for 125.

The visitors had earlier been bowled out for 152, Michael Artley having made 36 and Matthew Rennoldson 35 while Harry Collins finished with 4-31 for the hosts.
