SESSAY were once again able to increase their lead at the top of the Hunters York & District Senior League after they won for the fifth time in succession and those behind them continued to drop points.

The leaders' latest victory came against Whitkirk, the only side to have beaten them in the competition this season.

On that occasion an unbeaten century from Matthew Webb steered his side to a nine-wicket win, and he was again his side's top scorer with 49 but in a total of just 159 as Mark Wilkie took 4-37.

Matthew Till and Tim Hall both made 38 as, despite 3-27 from Simon Webb, the visitors got home with five wickets in hand.

Castleford lost ground on the leaders as a century from Joe Ashdown (114) inspired York to a 29-run win at Savile Park.

The visitors' 208-8 also included an unbeaten 37 from Toby Giddings, while David Wainwright picked up 4-46.

The hosts' skipper also chipped in with 30 but, despite 56 from Luke Edwards and 35 from James Sykes, his side came up just short, Matthew Hodsdon taking 3-34 as York climb to sixth and Castleford drop out of the top two.

James Clarkson (108no) and Dan Craven (43no) ensured a comfortable victory for Studley Royal as they took advantage of the result at Savile Park to move back into the promotion places with a seven-wicket win over Bolton Percy.

Craven (3-33) and Josh Chandler (3-24) both took three wickets for the home side as the visitors reached 215-8, thanks largely to Tom Atkinson (72) and Ian Lynch (73).

Tom Anderson (3-59) took all three wickets to fall when Royal batted but could do little to stop his side's fourth defeat in five.

Dunnington remain in contention for a top-two finish, despite finishing on the wrong end of the result at Malton & Old Malton.

William Spencer starred for the home team as they came within two wickets of victory.

He top-scored with 37 in a total of 183-8 in which Jay Snowden took 4-43 and Jack Bolam 3-69.

David Brent made 36 for the visitors, who themselves came within 17 runs of the win, but the home side held out, with Spencer finishing with 3-32.

James Pick's century helped Driffield Town gain revenge for the defeat in the reverse fixture against rivals Beverley Town.

On this occasion the Kings Mill Road side dominated the contest, Jordan Caley (41no) being one of number of players to contribute alongside Pick (105) to a total of 284-7.

Brad Dobson replied with 40 and the game went down to the wire, despite the visitors getting little more than halfway to the target, Nicky Johnson taking 5-27, with the final wicket falling with just two balls remaining.

Bottom side Goole Town's struggles continue as they lost again, this time at Pickering by five wickets after been bowled out for 123.

The total owed much to Ben Shelton (44) and Ben Earl (31), while Dave Greenlay took 3-11 for the home side.

They replied through an Andy Sharman (51no) half-century and 32 from Colin Frank as Richard Mann (4-65) picked up wickets in a losing cause.
