STAMFORD Bridge captain Matt Beckett has challenged his side to complete a ‘magnificent seven’ in the top-of-the-table clash against York.

Bridge are currently enjoying one of the best seasons in their 113 year history and will go top of Yorkshire Premier League North for the first time should they beat leaders York tomorrow at Low Catton Road.

A sensational six week return, including victory over champions Harrogate, has transformed the village side into genuine title contenders with Yorkshire all-rounder Will Rhodes helping to lead the charge.

The feel-good factor at the club has been boosted by the success of Lauren Winfield with England in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Lauren, who captains Yorkshire, still plays for Stamford Bridge when her schedule permits and her father, Andy, is the club’s scorekeeper.

England play their final group game against the West Indies tomorrow but have already qualified for next week’s semifinals.

Reflecting on the club’s recent form, Beckett said: “There are nine league games to go and who knows where we could finish if we can keep on playing like this? We have won six in a row in the league and it would be great to make that seven. But I don’t think we have even played our best cricket yet.”

York suffered only their second league defeat of the season last saturday against Yorkshire Academy but gained instant revenge on Sunday in the final of the Hunters T20 Blast.

Only eight points divide the top four clubs in the table and fourth-placed Academy host third placed Harrogate.

At the opposite end of the table, Clifton Alliance and Acomb, who are level on points, lock horns at Shipton Road. Sheriff Hutton Bridge host Scarborough while Woodhouse Grange entertain bottom side Easingwold.
