NEW Earswick finally secured their first win of the season to move off the bottom of the York and District Senior League Galtres Division Two.

On a wet wicket, they soon had opponents Osbaldwick (75 all out) in trouble thanks to the bowling of Jonny Sanders (5-36) and Kev Smith (3-22).

New Earswick found batting no easier with Alex Rippon (4-16) causing havoc however, the home team scraped home with one wicket remaining to collect a much-needed 30 points.

Pannal (147-6) tasted defeat for the second week in a row when they visited Tadcaster Magnets.

James Stuart hit an unbeaten 44 to see his team home for the loss of eight wickets and only one over remaining.

Sessay II came away from their visit to Thirsk with 30 points. Batting first, Sessay made 174-7 (John Flintoff 47, Lee Margerison 35). Thirsk were bowled out for 102 with Ben Scaling claiming 4-20.

Thorp Arch & Boston Spa enjoyed a convincing win at home to Stillington for whom Oliver Everard scored 61 in a first innings total of 123. TABS lost only two wickets and passed the required total in 22 overs.

Hovingham dropped to the bottom of the table after losing at home to league leaders Sheriff Hutton Bridge II.

They restricted Bridge to 145 all out (George Wainwright 3-30 and C Prest 3-49) with Paul Oldfield top scoring on 35. But Alex Ibbotson was the hero for Bridge with 5-23 as they bowled out the home side with only 3 balls remaining for 116.

Bilton in Ainsty claimed the full 30 points from their visit to Duncombe Park.

Batting first, they scored 152-9 despite a fine spell from Alex Medd (4-49). Owen Cowton scored 40 not out but Tim Lambert claimed 7-25 to bowl out the home side for 96.

5 of the 6 games in Galtres Division 3 were won by the side batting second, with the one exception coming at Easingwold 2nds where Tadcaster Magnets 2nds were the visitors. The home side batted first and smashed 331 for 3 with a pair of centuries from Tom Langstaff (111 not out) and Andrew Metcalfe (101 not out) with runs also from Ronnie Alexander (65). Metcalfe then completed his memorable day by claiming 4-9 and along with Dave Taylor (4-8) bowled out the hapless visitors for 52.

Rowntrees & Huntington bounced back from defeat last week with a win at home to Woodhouse Grange 3rds. Grange battled to 124 for 6 with the reliable Stuart Craven making 54. R&H were made to work for the win with Neil Reader picking up 4-38, however they reached their target with 11 balls remaining for the loss of 6 wickets with Tom Shaw (42) and Chris Todd (38 not out) ensuring their side hold on to top spot.

At the other end of the division Osbaldwick 2nds claimed a vital win at home to New Earswick 2nds. Batting first, the visitors struggled to 112 all out with Matt Taylor top scoring with 26 in response to 3-17 from 16 year old Jimmy Jacques and 2-11 from U-13 Yorkshire Diamond Annie Brown. In reply, Osbaldwick were indebted to two players from a very different age bracket with Andy Hall (60 not out) and Andy Patterson (30 not out) seeing their side home for the loss of 3 wickets in the 23rd over.

York 4ths also claimed an important win to keep above the relegation zone in their encounter at home to Heworth 3rds. Batting first, the visitors made 190 all out with runs from Paul Fairburn (59) and Will Frier (64). Zack Smith (4-31) and Kal Ahmed (3-30) were the pick of the bowlers for the home team. In response Dan Barker (3-28) nearly helped his side to victory but runs from Kal Ahmed (33) and a match-winning innings from Rob Flack, who finished 3 short of a century on 97 not out, saw his side home with only 1 wicket remaining to complete a nail-biting victory.

Knaresborough 2nds kept the pressure up on the top two with their 7th victory of the season at home to Sheriff Hutton. Unfortunately no details are available, however the home side chased down the visitors total of 134 all out for the loss of two wickets. Similarly, 4th placed Wetherby overcame visitors Huby by achieving their target of 117 for the loss of 6 wickets in the 36th over, again no details of performances were provided.

Thorp Arch & Boston Spa 2nds continue their dominance of Galtres Division 4 with another big win at Sheriff Hutton 2nds. Batting first, TABS made 226 for 7 with contributions from Chris Binnie (27), Rob Williams (25), Steve Raine (63 not out) and Ben Preston who made 53 from 34 balls including 4 sixes. Sheriff Hutton were unable to make much of an impact on the total thanks to an impressive spell of 4-15 from Rowan Bentley who helped to ensure the visitors were bowled out for 98.

Stillington 2nds batted first at home to Hovingham 2nds and made 122 for 4 with runs from David Dunn (36) and 16 year old Sam Boulton who made his maiden YDSCL half century with 57. The visitors set about the total positively, however kept losing wickets to Benn Wood (3-28) and Ethan Crusher (3-54) but were indebted to an essential knock from Alistair Thorpe (54 not out) who saw his side home in the 27th over with only 2 wickets remaining. Duncombe Park 2nds also picked up 30 points as Huby 2nds were unfortunately unable to raise a team. No result was received from the game between Heslington 2nds and Dringhouses 2nds at the time of going to press.
