HUBY Cricket Club have welcomed a grant from the Landfill Communities Fund which has paid for new equipment and improvements to the club's pitch.

The grant, worth around £7,000, was secured with the help of Todd Waste Management from their old Knapton Landfill Site.

Club spokesman Darren Howell said: "Todd's generosity has enabled us to purchase much needed equipment to improve the practice sessions, particularly for our juniors, and to improve our playing surface through the use of germination sheets, to help repair the wicket following the wear and tear inflicted during matches.

"In addition, the excellent covers help us to prepare a better playing surface before matches and protect the wicket from the elements during matches, saving games that would otherwise be lost to the weather."

Huby are currently sixth in Galtres division three in the York and District Senior League.

All ages are encouraged to attend net sessions, with the club's second team made up largely of juniors to ensure that players age 13 and upwards play an integral role in league matches.

Todd Waste Management was founded in 1900 and operates from their head office location in Thirsk.

Services include trade waste, skip hire and recycling with a pledge to divert waste away from landfill.
