STAMFORD Bridge will complete a hat-trick of fixtures against the top three sides in Yorkshire Premier League North when hosting second placed Scarborough tomorrow at Low Catton Road.

Captain Matthew Beckett admits it has been a ‘tricky’ start to the season for Bridge but has still been encouraged by his side’s performances in defeats to leaders York and third placed Harrogate.

“We have played some good cricket but just come up short when it mattered towards the end,” he said. “But it has been a good test for us and I am confident that, if we play our best cricket this weekend, we have got a very good chance of getting a result against Scarborough.”

Beckett says Bridge are looking to build on last season’s seventh place and challenge for a position in the top three. He believes the on-going presence of Yorkshire all-rounder Will Rhodes provides a good ‘focal point’ and helps attract new players to the village club.

Former Scarborough wicket-keeper Mark Tennant lines-up against his old club for the first time since joining brother Sam at Stamford Bridge this season. Opening batsman Max Maciver, meanwhile, will be looking to get among the runs after averaging just over 16 in his first five innings. Maciver, 20, also plays for the Leeds MCC University team and is a friend of Will Rhodes.

Leaders York, who have made a dream start to the season with three complete wins out of three, visit fifth-placed Yorkshire Academy.

Woodhouse Grange host third placed Harrogate boosted by last week’s first victory of the season. Fourth placed Acomb visit Driffield Town while Clifton Alliance host bottom of the table Easingwold - the only team still without a point.

Both Sheriff Hutton Bridge and Hull are without wins ahead of their clash at Moor Farm.

Malton & Old Malton host rivals Pickering in the premier division’s game of the weekend.
