WHITKIRK extended their lead at the top of Hunters York & District Senior League Division One with victory over third-placed Patrington.

Nearest rivals Harrogate’s match against Osbaldwick was one of four abandoned, while Sewerby climbed off the foot of the table following their first victory of the season.

A century from Simon Webb helped Whitkirk to a fifth straight win as they defeated Patrington by eight wickets. Webb followed the previous week’s 106 against Harrogate with an unbeaten 133, and a third-wicket partnership of 127 with George Walker (39no) clinched victory for the visitors.

That came in reply to a total of 234-8 in which Ashley Mckinley (102) also reached three figures and Marc Pollard scored 57, but their stand of 111 turned out to be in a losing cause.

Five wickets from Mark Pallister (5-32) helped set up victory for Sewerby at home to Beverley Town in the only other match to beat the weather.

Olly Grantham made 56 and Kieran Simpson 30 as the visitors were bowled out for 135 before opposing skipper Adrian Long (32) set up his side's three- wicket win, Scott Cooper (27no) and Steve Janney (25no) seeing them over the line.

Harrogate were denied the chance of victory, having reached 110-3 in reply to Osbaldwick’s 166-9 at St George’s Road when the rain arrived.

Jonathan Robley (50) had top-scored for the visitors, while Will Topham returned 4-18 from six overs, and was then unbeaten on 29, sharing an unbroken stand of 58 with Rob Taylor (36no) when the match was abandoned.

Three wickets each for Bridlington’s Adam Newington (3-36) and Richard Medford (3-63) helped bowl out Hornsea for 185, Sam Edmundson (43) top-scoring for the home side before the weather prevented any reply from the visitors.

There was even less play between Pocklington and Malton & Old Malton, where the visitors reached 65-2, and only seven overs were possible between Selby, who managed to score 18-2, and Folkton & Flixton.
