YORK, early pacesetters in the Yorkshire Premier League North, are preparing for a top-of-the-table clash with Hull at Clifton Park tomorrow.

The teams appear evenly-matched and the home side's slender four-point lead stems from York managing to play on the opening weekend when other fixtures fell victim to the weather.

Hull are in top form, dispatching Acomb to a 50-run defeat last weekend with their batsmen to the fore. Andrew Simpson (65) and Tom Appleyard (54) are the men to tame.

To add spice to the contest, York's bowlers took the honours in their last outing, reducing Castleford to less than 100, with Charlie Elliot and Jack Leaning combining to do the damage for York.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge are third on 31 points – the same as Hull – and they will be aiming to continue their good run of form on a trip to Driffield Town who are fifth.

Mark Fisher is proving a stubborn batsman for the Bridge – his 92 last week followed an 85 the week before. Karl Carver will be aiming to build on his first five-wicket haul of the season last Saturday.

Stamford Bridge are making their presence felt in the new set-up, occupying fifth place. They will be looking to improve again when Scarborough visit Low Catton Road.

Bridge's Alex McQueen has designs on a profitable season with bat and ball, featuring near the top of both early averages stats.

He struck 51 last week and claimed a three-wicket haul and will be relishing the prospect of facing Scarborough, who are seeking a first win.

Woodhouse Grange are hoping to follow up last weekend's first win, against bottom club Dunnington, when they entertain second-bottom Castleford.

Grange captain Andrew Bilton (50) combined with brother and vice-captain Chris (77) to earn winning points, which saw them move up to ninth.

Acomb, in eighth, face a tough test tomorrow – away to the mercurial Yorkshire Academy side.

Dunnington, who are without a point so far, entertain Harrogate at Common Road.

Clifton Alliance are top of the Hunters York & District Senior League, and the only team to have won all three matches they have started. Alliance will be travelling confidently tomorrow to bottom of the table Goole Town.

Easingwold, in second, have a derby against York Seconds, and will be hoping their openers Stephen Piercy (145) and Mark Mierszwinski (64) can build on the form that saw them set an opening partnership of 177 against Beverley last weekend.

There is another York derby as Sessay take on second-bottom Heworth. Pickering are seeking a second win when they entertain Driffield seconds, while Bolton Piercy are also at home, to Hull Zingari.

The pick of the matches in division one sees Malton and Old Malton entertain Selby, with both teams having one just win to their names.

Pocklington, third bottom of the division, entertain fourth-placed Patrington, while Folkton and Flixton entertain Sewerby, and Osbaldwick entertain Hornsea.
