SESSAY moved another step closer to promotion from Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division one with a hard-fought win at Whitkirk.

The runaway leaders claimed their fifth straight win in a low-scoring match after Joseph Watson (3-17), Mark Wilkie (3-20) and Stuart Pierse (3-34) bowled the home side out for 111.

Despite their modest target, the visitors lost five wickets.

Driffield Town’s fourth straight win came at the expense of bottom placed Sewerby, Ben Dobson (114) scoring his third century of the season chasing 203 for victory.

David Greenlay (94no) and Chris Nichols (66no) saw Pickering to an eight-wicket win at home to promotion rivals Bridlington after Tom Sigsworth (5-46) and Mark Shepherd (3-43) had restricted the visitors to 178-9, despite 90 from Richard Lount.

The result allowed the hosts to climb into third place above Bolton Percy, who finished on the wrong end of thrilling match at Folkton & Flixton, losing out in the penultimate over.

The visitors had the in-form Peter Houseman (76) to thank as he passed 50 for the fifth time this season and Ed Noble made 42 in a total of 216 against Jamie Nesfield (3-36), Harry Walmsley (3-45) and Chris Mann (3-53).

Nesfield then contributed 38 to the reply, with Walmsley making 41 and Anthony Stone 88, while Tom Atkinson took 3-54.

There was an even closer finish at Old Malton Road as Malton & Old Malton beat Goole Town by a single wicket.

Oscar Sugden’s 104 for the visitors was countered by Oliver Gilbank's 6-46 to leave Malt chasing a target of 175.

Stephen Linsley (53) got his side off to a good start before Ollie Ounsley (3-9) applied the brakes at 130-6. That became 145-9 before a stand of 34 between Tom Harrison (39no) and Toby Sercombe (6no) secured a memorable win.

Beverley were five-wicket winners at Osbaldwick.

Rich Carew (68) top-scored for the home side and a half-century from Jonny Rawsthorne (51) saw them to 207-8, but it was not enough.
