ASHLEY PAGE had a day to remember with the ball as he ripped through Driffield Town III’s batting line-up in division two south of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.

The Welton and Brough opening bowler took the first eight wickets of the game as he helped to reduce the hosts to 62 all out. He finished with figures of 8-33 from his 12 overs.

The visitors then set about their business in positive fashion with skipper Andy Copley hitting a rapid 40, putting on 42 for the opening stand with the slow-scoring Tony Gray, who finished the game three not out from 57 balls to seal an eight-wicket win.

Pocklington continued their impressive start after they completed a routine seven-wicket win over Rowntrees & Huntington.

Batting first, Rowntrees lost skipper Jack Hugill early, but two 50-plus partnerships both involving opener Nick Johnson, who top-scored with 53, took the hosts to a below-par total of 144.

Scores from all of Pocklington’s top four secured successive wins, with opener Alex Downey top- scoring with 45.

Invited to bat first by Hull, Heworth compiled a competitive 203-9 from their 45 overs.

The hosts then fell 15 runs short of victory, but Hull will be the happier of the two teams as Heworth fell a wicket short of victory despite the best efforts of Andy Scott, who finished with a three-wicket haul.

Elsewhere, Dringhouses fell seven runs short of triumph after Tadcaster Magnet held their nerve to rescue a draw. Tadcaster batted first and set Dringhouses 142 to win, with Phil Smith (40) top-scoring for the visitors.

Ed Day took 3-33 to help to restrict the hosts to 134-8 and just two blows away from victory.

Tom Piercy hit an unbeaten 42 as Huby grabbed a low-scoring division three north win over Copman - thorpe.

Having won the toss, Huby invited Copmanthorpe to have first go with the bat, and the visitors limped to 109-9 from their 45 overs on a tricky batting surface. Hugh Shedden did the damage with a 3-26 haul.

The hosts then lost a clatter of wickets as they chased their lowly target but Piercy came to the rescue to keep his nerve and underpin the win for Huby.

Malton & Old Malton’s Steve Oldfield took four wickets in a 34-run win over Thorp Arch & Boston Spa.

Wayne Dawson hit 47 as the hosts set Thorp Arch 160 for victory but Oldfield’s fine spell of bowling meant the visitors were never really in the hunt. He finished with figures of 4-17 as the hosts bowled their counterparts out for 125.

Stillington’s Oliver Everard struck seven times in a surprise victory over Pocklington.

Having batted first Stillington posted a paltry 93, of which Mark Aconley hit 45. But Pocklington were blown away for 69 after Everard exacted 7-19.

A century from 17-year-old Ben Shingles helped Londesborough Park to a division four west win over Woodhouse Grange. Having been invited to bat by their visitors Londesborough posted a mammoth 263-5 of their 45 overs with Shingles top scoring with a fine 103, ably supported by Simon Dodd’s 71.

Despite a fine 109 from Christopher Smith, Stamford Bridge had to settle for a draw against hosts Thorp Arch & Boston Spa side, who, in reply, totalled 246-8 thanks to a fine knock of 66 from in-form Oliver Riley.

He was well backed by Andrew Jones (65) to ensure a share of the spoils.
