MAN-OF-THE-MATCH David Suddaby didn’t let his head go down after seeing a no-ball take away what looked like a precious wicket in the Davidstow Village Cup final against Great and Little Tew at Lord’s.

The medium pacer watched Harry Smith hole out over midwicket only for the umpires to signal he had taken a step too far in his run-up - a crucial decision at a time when the Oxfordshire side were starting to score runs after choosing to bat in the village showpiece.

But, having never taken a wicket at the home of cricket despite playing in the 2008 and 2012 final defeats for the Suttonon- Derwent side, Suddaby roared back - getting Jordan Garrett plumb lbw the very next ball and sending Markus Jeacock back the same way.

It was part of a 3-36 haul that helped to dismiss Tew for 114, Grange winning by ten wickets.

“It’s not like batting - you do get another chance,” the opening bowler said of his mindset following the misfortune. “When you are given the opportunity you just have to take every ball as it comes.

“There was the no-ball, a wicket and then a wicket with the next ball as well. I played in 2008 and 2012 and didn’t take wickets.

This was the first time and to do it meant a lot to me.”
