STEVE BURDETT admits he and brother Mike have "unfinished business" in the Davidstow Village Cup final as the pair get ready to step once again onto the hallowed turf at Lord's.

The siblings are stalwarts of the Woodhouse Grange team that will bid to pick up the prestigious title at the home of English cricket for the third time when they face Oxfordshire's Great and Little Tew tomorrow.

Neither might have played this time, however, had the Sutton-on-Derwent team not fallen at the final hurdle two years ago against Reed and Burdett admits the bitter taste that defeat left spurred him on for one more victory charge.

"Coming back and reflecting on it, I felt there was a little bit of unfinished business," he said. "If we had won in 2012 it would probably would have been time for both me and Mike.

"We are both huge believers in development. The Village has been very good to us both over 20 years. I was involved in the semi-final in 1995. Mike played in the final and, two decades on, is still involved.

"That is a testament to his ability to stay fit and play at that level. I strongly believe it is a case of unfinished business. We are so competitive. We want to tick the box and make a decision after that."

This will be the sixth time Grange have reached the Lord's showpiece. Their last win came in 2007 and they were runners up a year later and in 2012.

On what a final at Lord's means, Burdett added: "It's wonderful for the club. It gives all those people who contribute so much a wonderful day out. You don't enter a competition, get to the final, and then say it doesn't matter. It is pointless getting all that way if you don't win.

"We have been on the wrong end of the last two now. We dearly want to make it 3-3. It would top off what has been a great period of time within the club.

"Let's go out and be really professional on the day. If we perform well, we will be very competitive against any side. I don't want to go all that way and not come home with the trophy."
