RELEGATION is looming large for York II in the wake of their seven-wicket defeat at Beverley in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League premier division.

The Clifton Parkers were only able to post a total of 103 as S Mudd pocketed 4-16 before Beverley eased to a winning 105-3 with Tony Spence 52 not out.

An eight-wicket victory over Fenner extended Woodhouse Grange’s lead at the top to 53 points and they seem certain to retain their title.

Fenner totalled 182-9 as Andrew Horner captured 4-47 before Nick Hadfield hit 72, Chris Bilton 52 and Andrew Bilton 46.

Phil Hill made 67 not out and Dave Chaplin and unbeaten 48 as Stamford Bridge posted a target of 204-6 at Dunnington.

The home side then lost five wickets as Dominic Rhodes claimed 3-32, but then eased to a draw at 125-5 as Jack Bolam made 45 not out and Adam Dyson a season’s best 29 not out.

Easingwold and Sheriff Hutton Bridge swapped places in the table, as the Bridge triumphed by six wickets to go second.

Ex-Bridge junior captain Martin Piercy made 26 and Paul Skilbeck 27, but they were all out for 106 against Jordan Grose (4-30), Mark Fisher (3-19) and Ben Harrison (3-34). In response, Adam Fisher made 29 before Paul Scaling’s unbeaten 27 clinched victory.

Hull Zingari eased away from the relegation zone when they won by 43 runs at Clifton Alliance.

Zingari were all out for 115 as Richard Carroll grabbed 6-23 in ten and a half overs.

Clifton’s batting then melted away as 16-year-old East Yorkshire Joe Lumb player Callum Helwig took 5-17 in a total of 72.
