FORMER West Indies batting star Collis King came out of retirement but was unable to prevent Dunnington slipping to an eight-wicket defeat by premier division champions Woodhouse Grange.

King, one of the most prolific batsmen in the history of the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League, failed to make a major contribution as Dunnington were all out for 145.

There were home runs from Kev Bradley (27), Dan Barrett (26) and Jack Bolam (44), but Dave Suddaby and Josh Jackson both returned figures of 4-35.

Andy Bilton then struck 53 before Nick Hadfield’s unbeaten 65 ensured the champion shared top spot with Fenner, who beat Sewerby by seven wickets.

Third-placed Easingwold took first innings at Beverley and pouched full batting points when a good team effort saw them reach 207-9.

Joint top-scorers were Martin Piercy and Kyle Waite, who each made 47, while Steve Piercy chipped in with 27 and Paul Skilbeck 26.

The hosts replied with 145-8 thanks to 48 runs from Jon Fisher and 38 by Olly Grantham, but Rich Lindsay's 4-47 secured an advantage draw for Easingwold.

Clifton Alliance were 53-run winners at neighbours York II.

John Gilham hit 58 in Alliance's 178-8 then team-mate Scott Hopkinson grabbed 4-37 as York were dismissed for 125. York's Matthew Hodsdon had 4-36 and Russ Bowry made 33.

Slow bowlers were to the fore at Stamford Bridge where the home side had the better of a draw against Studley Royal, who held out at 114-9 when chasing a modest 149.

Matt Beckett made 27, Pete Milner 37 and Dave Chaplin 32 for the hosts as Steve Walmsley took 4-30 and Dan Craven 3-38.

Craven then followed with 28, but Chaplin’s 4-35 almost conjured a home victory.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge batsman Rob Pinder struck his first Senior League century when he hit 121 against Hull Zingari.

He shared a 92-run third-wicket stand with Adam Fisher, who fell for 63, then Ben Gill hit an inventive 34 not out to lift the Bridge’s total to 283-6.

Zingari slipped to 34-3 but made a partial recovery as Andy Hanson made 45. Mark Fisher’s 4-49 helped to earn a 135-run victory.
