Acomb brushed away the last lingering division three relegation worries when they beat bottom-placed Sessay by five wickets.

James Byford’s 5-13 denied Sessay any batting points when they were felled for 90 before Neil Grant hit 54 to see his side home.

Half-centuries by Jonathon Dilks and Brian Howard enabled Carlton Towers to post a score of 202 against visiting Hovingham, whose Steve Mosey took 4-49.

In reply, David Bowling hit 41no and Mosey 34, but Matthew Torn produced a killer spell of 5-36, while Dilks captured 3-45, as Hovingham were bowled out for 143.

In making 84, his 12th score of 50 or over in this batsman friendly summer, Duncombe Park’s Brian Leckenby took his seasonal aggregate to 1,183 just three runs short of his best in 2011.

He had sound support from Peter Kent, whose 56no, helped Park to reach 217-7 against visiting Osbaldwick.

The pick of the York side’s bowlers were Alex Rippon with 3-50 and B Richardson who took 3-52. In reply, Matt Dunne made 54, but A Holmes claimed 3-40 which left Osso tottering on 181-9.

Dringhouses’ promotion hopes ended at Pocklington where they lost by 71 runs.

In a big home total of 238-9, Neil Jackson hit 73. But Dringhouses evergreen Mick Kenyon had the personal satisfaction of confirming his rating as the division’s leading wicket-taker when his 5-41 hoisted his tally to 47.

Unfortunately his batting colleagues were unable to match his prowess and totalled 167.

While Dringhouses floundered, Sheriff Hutton grabbed the second promotion slot with a three-wicket win which sent Scarborough down into division four.

Josh Mainprize made 39 for the Seasiders but Josh Wilford’s 4-14 had the innings closing on exactly 100.

Joe Schofield then made 38 as Sheriff progressed to 93-4.

M Kay’s 4-41 caused consternation in the Castlemen’s ranks as three fell without a run being scored. It took them 13 overs to score the remaining eight runs for a three-wicket victory.
