Woodhouse Grange clinched their fifth premier division title in six seasons after a draw with Beverley Town in the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League.

In an advantage draw for the runaway top-flight leaders, there were vintage performances by batsman Nick Hadfield, who hit his second century of the season and his 21st ton in the premier division, and a three-wicket over by skipper Steve Burdett.

After seeing Chris Bilton fall for 36, Hadfield and Mike Burdett (47) put on 129 for the third wicket and Hadfield carried his bat for an unbeaten 121 in a total of 233-4.

Anthony Spence then replied with an unbeaten 87, which enabled Beverley to gain a draw at 177-8 despite Steve Burdett’s return of 4-43.

A fine unbeaten century by Andy Tute, his 12th ton in the premier division, propelled Acomb to an eight-wicket win over second-placed Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

The Bridge batsmen found runs hard to come by against some accurate bowling, particularly from Joe Dale and Harry Booth who between them bowled 27 overs for only 80 runs.

Paul Oldfield anchored the innings with 61, while Adam Fisher added 34. In the last ten overs the visitors’ total was enhanced as Ben Gill (35no) and Ed Barnes (23) gave a master-class in running between the wickets. Their efforts enabled the Bridge to total 195-2.

When Acomb replied, Tute took control and he had able partners in Joe Burton (38) and Joe Dale (23no) as the Bridge suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.

Clifton Alliance lifted themselves out of the bottom two with an eight-wicket victory over Selby, whose chances of avoiding relegation are now remote.

Jamie Wheeler made 59 for Selby and good supporting knocks from Gareth Townend (44) and Lee Wild (34) helped them reach 190-9 despite three run outs.

Sid Corley then hit 49 at the head of the Alliance order before an unbroken stand of 97 between Joe Ashdown (80no) and Scott Hopkinson (47no) took Clifton home.

Stamford Bridge strengthened their bid for the runners-up spot with a six-wicket win at Sewerby.

Russ Robinson made 73 and Mike Artley 35 as they shared a stand of 111 for the home side, but Stamford’s S Crutchley took 3-31 to peg the cliff-toppers to 178-8.

When Stamford responded skipper Matt Beckett (54) and Ollie Pimlott (74) had a stand of 112.

Jake Murphy starred for York as they gained 24 valuable points from a draw at Dunnington.

Murphy top-scored with 67 in York’s total of 239, while Simon Lambert made 61. Dave Johnson took 3-65 and Adam Iyer 3-59.

Murphy then ripped through Dunnington’s top order as the hosts were reduced to 43-6. Jack Bolam stood firm in making 74 but Murphy’s 6-48 put York in command.

An outright win was denied when Bolam and 15-year-old Jack Spofforth batted out the final 18 overs to earn Dunnington a draw at 142-9.

Easingwold’s draw against visiting Studley Royal produced 595 runs for the loss of only 14 wickets.

Studley’s 309-7 included runs by Steve Walmsley (95), Rob Mackle (84), Gary Blackburn (44) and Dan Craven (44).

The hosts replied with 286-7 thanks to Martin Piercy (89), Kyle Waite (56) and Mark Haines (32).
