New sides ready for evening sessions

7:55am Wednesday 7th May 2008

THE Foss Evening Cricket League is back up to full strength for the 2008 season, which gets under way tonight.

Only three years after the league was threatened by dwindling numbers, there are now 16 teams taking part in two divisions.

Westow and Stockton & Hopgrove have been recruited along with Cueball of York, and they have been joined by Londesborough Park's development team and the Retreat Hospital.

Last year's winners, Woodhouse Grange, will start as favourites in division one, but they can expect to be pushed by Stamford Bridge, Dunnington and Heworth.

Barmby Moor, Pocklington, Wheldrake and newly-promoted Yapham are expected to battle it out to avoid the sole relegation place.

In division two, Wilberfoss and Melbourne are likely to challenge for the promotion spot, while Thixendale could be among the dark horses for the title.

Clubs are reminded to email their match details to results secretary Kevin Smith by noon on Fridays.
