Rain affects Pilmoor Evening Cricket League programme

Play was possible in only three Pilmoor Evening Cricket League fixtures as the June deluge took hold.

Sessay batted first at Sheriff Hutton Bridge and got off to a good start with opener Nick Thorne smiting 50 from the first 62 runs scored.

The total collapsed to 76-7 before being lifted to 120 without further loss thanks to Paul Flintoff (37no) and Dan Easton (18 no).

The top Bridge bowlers were Simon Naylor (3-18), Jack Hugill (2-43) and Taylor Coyle (2-34).

Bridge’s response was led by Paul Scaling and Josh Cockerill, the latter dismissed for 22 before Scaling struck an aggressive 58.

The asking rate got tougher, but a late surge from David Speake (22no) took the hosts to 121-4 with four balls remaining.

In the second division, Acomb increased their lead after a run- spree against visiting Rowntrees.

Joe Dale and Martin Pepper each made half-centuries before compulsory retirement in Acomb’s 200-8.

For Rowntrees, Dan Waterworth, S Allen and S Gall took two wickets apiece.

Chris Todd led Rowntrees’ reply making an unbeaten 36.

But no other batsman reached double figures as the visitors closed on 86-9, Zac Loveley taking 2-1 and Christian Burton 2-4.
