Sessay snatch Pilmoor Cricket League title in Thirsk showdown

SESSAY toppled Thirsk in a division one title decider in the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League.
Sessay took an early grip on the game as Thirsk struggled against Joe Watson (2-19), Dan Easton (2-15) and Matthew Till (2-25), but Ryan McKendry (59no) and Ben Morgan (18) guided Thirsk to a competitive 112-8.
Chris Cowton made 35 for the hosts but they slipped from 75-2 to 91-6 against Ben England (2-25) and Mark Cook (3-21). However, Till and Tom Sowerby steered Sessay home by four wickets.
Helperby batted first against Crayke and made 126-5, thanks to Dan Spink (50) and Joe Kinsella (27). Adam Fairhurst took 2-17.
Fairhurst then made 44 and Drew Walker 34, but Crayke fell agonisingly short on 125-5.
Relegated Easingwold lost heavily at Newburgh. Easingwold made 111-5, with Jamie Metcalfe hitting 42.
Newburgh were taken to victory by James Banks’ 67 not out.
Acomb claimed the division two runners-up spot with a rapid victory over Alne. Alne’s 83-5 included 47 from opener Nick Johnson. Matt Dale (45) then scored quickly as Acomb won by seven wickets.
Sheriff Hutton finished third after winning a high-scoring encounter at Stillington. Johnny Uttley and Rich Ainley each made half-centuries in Sheriff’s 176-3. Karl Simpson hit 50 (ret) and Chris Browne made 57 but Stillington closed on 153-7.
Kevin Barker took 3-1 as New Earswick restricted Rowntrees to 75-8 before easing to an eight-wicket win.
