A win for Thirsk over Helperby saw them overtake leaders Sessay to top the first division of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League.

Batting first, they reached 153-7 with Liam McKendry (51) and Ben England (45) in good touch. Geoff Macfarland enjoyed a good day with the ball, taking 4-23.

When Helperby replied, they found the going tough against England (2-18) and Jake Petty (2-24), and closed well adrift on 123-6.

Figures of 3-18 for Sheriff Hutton Bridge’s Jamie Hopper helped his side to a win over Sessay. Robert Speak’s 67 led the way in a total of 124-5, but Sessay ended on 111-6.

Easingwold had first dig against Clifton Alliance but despite a strong showing with the bat, thanks to Andrew Metcalfe (81) and Dan Copeland (54), they could not seal their second win of the season.

Their 156-4 was chased down in only 14.3 overs by Clifton Alliance with Andy Parkinson (68no) and Matt Phillips (60no) taking their team over the line at 160-1.

Second division leaders Dringhouses’ latest triumph came at the expense of Huby.

Max Lord (21) and Mike South (36) provided the bulk of Huby’s 85-4, Sam Lingard returning 2-8 for Dringhouses.

Chris Storey then made 50 as the York side won for the tenth time in their debut season. They now need only one point from three remaining games to make sure of promotion.

Acomb are the only side with a chance of catching them, and they were in uncompromising mood against Rowntrees.

Joe Dale (50 ret) was the mainstay in their 163-4 with Kevin Palmer taking 2-38. Sean Marshall then made 23 for Rowntrees, but he had no support and his side were all out for 47, with Jack Woodworth (5-5) starring.

Sheriff Hutton pipped Civil Service by one wicket with their last pair at the crease, chasing down the visitors’ total of 136-2.
