Sheriff Hutton Bridge kept up the pressure on Pilmoor Evening Cricket League division one leaders Thirsk with a win over Sessay

SHERIFF Hutton Bridge kept up the pressure on Pilmoor Evening Cricket League division one leaders Thirsk with a win over Sessay.

The gap at the top is four points after Thirsk got back to winning ways with a comfortable success at Clifton Alliance.

Huw Williams (49), Stuart Christon (48) and Mark Nursey (46) helped Thirsk to 167-5, with only Bob Taylor (2-31) having any sort of success for Clifton.

Clifton’s reply was then undermined by Tom Polkinghorne, who took 4-4, and Mark Cook, who claimed 2-2, as the hosts closed well adrift on 75-8.

Sessay batted first against Sheriff Hutton Bridge and made 126-5, with Nick Thorne (51) and Richard Till (38) leading the way.

Bridge’s best returns came from Mark Fisher and Paul Oldfield, who both took 2-18.

Oldfield then starred in Bridge’s reply, making 50, while support came from Geoff Schofield with 27.

Liam Carver took 2-16 for Sessay, but Bridge ran out winners at 127-4 in the 19th over.

Easingwold were beaten by Newburgh after making 90-9.

Although several Easingwold batsmen made a start, no one went on to make a telling contribution as wickets fell steadily to John Thornton (3-21) and Dave Taylor (5-16).

Rob Proudley made an unbeaten 47 to guide Newburgh to 93-2 in the 13th over.

The two bottom placed sides met at Acomb where the hosts beat Helperby.

Acomb posted 161-5, thanks to Leon Sacks’ unbeaten 86. Farhat Ansar supported him with 27.

Rohan Blandford was Helperby’s most effective bowler with 2-29.

Blandford then top-scored with 40 in Helperby’s reply but, despite James Hardy making 20, Helperby’s innings fell away to 120 all out. Andrew Jaques took 2-17.

In division two, Stillington suffered a heavy defeat at home to Sheriff Hutton.

Joel Wilford (50 ret) and Eddie Hull (51 ret) provided the basis of Sheriff’s 145-6, while Toby Wells (2-30) and Carl Simpson (2-37) were the pick of Stillington’s bowlers. Stillington’s batsmen then failed to do themselves justice as wickets fell steadily to Dave Hull (4-9), Ben Harrison (3-27) and Andy Kenny (2-17). Although Barry Milburn made 21, the hosts were all out for 78.

Crayke took advantage by beating Alne, who closed on 102-7.

Crayke’s Peter Carr made 34 and Andrew Walker 37 as they won in the 17th over at 105-3.

Raskelf were beaten by Civil Service as their 88-6 was surpassed thanks to 40 from Alex Ingram.
