Easingwold lose to Thirsk in Pilmoor Evening Cricket League


EASINGWOLD were denied an upset as they lost to Thirsk in division one of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League Easingwold batted first and made 110-9, largely due to the efforts of Paul Skilbeck, who made 60, while Jake Petty (2-19) and Ben England (2-13) had decent bowling returns.

Tom Cosgrove (2-29) and Skilbeck (3-19) then caused Thirsk some discomfort, but Ryan McKendry made 34 and the depth of Thirsk’s batting saw them home in the 17th over at 111-6.

Opener Paul Walton dominated basement side Clifton Alliance’s innings when they took on Newburgh, finishing unbeaten on 90 as Clifton posted 136-3.

Newburgh’s run chase was given a fine start by James Banks (44) and Rob Proudley (55no) and they won at 139-1 with more than an over in hand.

James Hardy (55), John Tuley (29 not out) and Rohan Blandford (27) all contributed to Helperby’s 129-3 against Sheriff Hutton Bridge.

Jerry Clough made 31, Dave Phillips 20 and Steve Clipstone 19 to take Bridge to victory at 130-5, despite Tuley’s 2-33.

Sessay turned in a poor batting display against Acomb as they were restricted to 92-9, with Matt Williams taking 2-8 from five overs.

Howard Booth, run out for 30 and Scott Nicholls, unbeaten on 35, made telling contributions as Acomb reached a winning 93-5.

Division two leaders Stillington beat visitors Rowntrees, who batted first and were all out in the last over for 122.

Dominic Atkinson (22) and Jack Gabbitass (22) were in the runs, while Karl Simpson took 3-12.

Stillington replied with 123-2. Adrian Leckenby set the tone for the innings with a rapid 50 from 23 balls and Jack Cartwright was unbeaten on 34 as they won with eight overs to spare.

Crayke kept up their challenge with a win at Civil Service, making 131-6 despite Graham Sherlock’s 4-16. Jimmy Whitehead led the Civil Service reply with 29, but his side were held back by Ian Pocklington (2-24) and closed on 85-5. Richard Garside was unbeaten on 21.

Raskelf lost at Alne after they made 95-9, with James Ash (2-16), Steve Back (2-19) and John Henley (2-7) doing the damage. Sam Ash (23) and Richard Henley (49) then helped Alne to 96-2.

Sheriff Hutton had a comfortable win at Huby. Huby made 114-7, with Steven Piercy hitting 33, Thomas Piercy 20, Ben Aked 18 and Mike South 17 not out.

Richard Armitage took 2-11 and Frazer Land 2-34 for Sheriff.

Tom Harrison then led Sheriff’s reply with 50 and Andrew Frank was 44 not out when the visitors won at 115-1.
