THIRSK retained their three-point advantage at the top of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League after victory at Acomb.
Australian Tom Polkinghorne’s unbeaten 70 was the basis of Thirsk’s 124-5 when they batted first.
The hosts’ reply was led by Andrew Green, who made 58, and Scott Nicholls (38no), but they could not find the necessary momentum and closed in arrears on 114-2, with Liam McKendry taking 2-30 for Thirsk.
Batsmen were on top at Clifton Alliance where Sheriff Hutton Bridge took first innings. J Clough (52no), Dave Phillips (29), Matthew Prosser (34) and Nick Schofield (23no) all contributed to Bridge’s 150-2.
Clifton found that it was just out of reach despite the efforts of Alastair Wray, who made 65, and Mark Taylor (45no) as they replied with 139-1.
Newburgh batted first against Helperby and Rob Proudley was the backbone of their innings, making 55, while Joe Corner (3-25) had the best return for Helperby.
Rohan Blandford and James Hardy looked to be putting Helperby on top with a second-wicket partnership, but the game began to turn in Newburgh’s favour when Blandford was stumped off young off-spinner Charles Ramsey for 41.
Hardy went on to make 43, but wickets fell steadily to Jason Sargent (2-27), Ramsey (2-25), John Burnett (2-18) and Dave Taylor (2-9) and Helperby’s run chase was unsuccessful on 110-8.
Sessay skipper Nick Thorne hit the first century of the season when he made an unbeaten 105 in his side’s 168-2 against visitors Easingwold. His innings included ten fours and five sixes.
Tommy Langstaff was the only Easingwold bowler to enjoy any success with 2-37.
The visitors replied with 94 all out, Paul Skilbeck making 26, with Dean Watson (3-21) and Steve Barker (3-22) enjoying the best returns for Sessay.
In the second division, Stillington maintained their 100 per cent record against struggling Raskelf.
Rob Steele made 52 before having to retire, while Karl Simpson made 33 as Stillington totalled 114-4. Hamish Taylor took 2-29.
In reply, Raskelf toiled against the home attack, in which Toby Wells with 3-13 was the pick, and closed on 57-8. Sheriff Hutton took first innings at Crayke and made 117-4, Tom Harrison top scoring with 53 (retired) and Nick Aley making 28. Crayke won comfortably at 118-1, with Simon Lewis making 40, Jamie Perkins 50 (ret) and Adam Fairhurst 16no.
Rowntrees lost for the first time this term at home to Alne.
Richard Henley (32) and T Raper (50 ret) were the main scorers as Alne posted a healthy 145-3 target.
Rowntrees’ reply was led by D Atkinson with 34, but Eddie Myers (3-36) and Richard Bryan (2-21) excelled and Rowntrees closed on 126-8.
