Leaders Thirsk capitalise on rain to extend their lead at the top of Pilmoor Evening Cricket League division one

HALF of the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League programme was wiped out – but Thirsk still managed to extend their lead at the top of division one.

Thirsk was the only top flight venue to see any play, while play was possible at Sheriff Hutton, Alne and Raskelf in the second division.

With all of their title rivals kicking their heels, Thirsk stretched their lead to a useful looking three points after only three rounds of fixtures.

They recorded a 24-run win over Clifton, who are now three points adrift at the foot of the table.

Ben England (41) and John Cook (35) were Thirsk’s main scorers as they made 111-6. Rob Thorpe (2-18) and Bob Taylor (3-37) led the way for Clifton. John Myers spearheaded Clifton’s reply with 40, but their effort faded when he was fourth out at 67. Ryan McKendry’s three overs yielded 3-14 and Ross McAndrew supported with 2-12 as Clifton’s reply closed on 87-7.

Stillington are the clear leaders of division two after a convincing win at Sheriff Hutton.

They ran up 165-1, with Rob Steele making 51 before retiring, while Carl Simpson hit 34, Josh Cantwell-Crook made 21 not out and Adrian Leckenby struck 38 not out.

Sheriff replied with 120-9 as Tom Harrison made 35, but Stillington’s win was confirmed by Toby Wells (4-26) and Jack Cartwright (3-42).

Raskelf are still looking for their first point after losing at home to Civil Service.

Raskelf made 76-8, with Adam Nabbs making 25, as Andy Tessier (3-13) and Graham Sherlock (3-19) made life difficult for the batsmen.

Sam Davill (2-19) had Civil Service in trouble as they slipped to 22-3, but Sherlock (25no) and J Chisholm (23no) saw them to 77-3 with an over to spare.

Alne recorded their first win at home to previously unbeaten Crayke. Crayke made 107-4, thanks to Peter Carr (23) and Adam Fairhurst (41), with Leo Castro taking 2-27. Rick Henley led Alne’s reply with 49 and they won at 108-1 with Will Myers 26 not out and Eddie Myers 20 not out.
