PLAY was only possible at Sheriff Hutton Bridge in the first division of the Pilmoor Evening cricket League, where Sessay won to take a one-point lead at the top of the division.

Sessay batted first at Sheriff Hutton Bridge and openers Nick Thorne (47) and Liam Carver (44) provided the basis of their 108-4 on a damp pitch.

David Speake had the best return for Bridge with 2-15, and the home reply struggled against the visitors’ attack and closed on 65-8, Josh Cockerill top-scoring with 15. Stephen Langstaff (2-12) and Ali McKenzie (2-3) had most success for Sessay.

After the best game of the evening, Sheriff Hutton now top the second division after winning an exciting contest with Acomb.

Consistent scoring by the home batsmen saw Sheriff reach 125-5, solid contributions coming from Johnny Armitage with an unbeaten 40, David Hull with 31, 28 from Tom Harrison and 22 from Jag Gopalappa.

Acomb responded well with Aidan Burton making 42 and Dan Littlewood 40, but a tight spell of bowling by Chris Gartland, whose four overs yielded a return of 2-4, tipped the game in favour of the hosts as Acomb closed on 116-3.

Stillington batted first when they hosted Rowntrees and Huntington. Chris Borwell’s 27 provided the basis of their 82-7, D Mortimer being the most effective visiting bowler with 3-20. Rowntrees and Huntington replied with 83-4, Simon Kale making 26 as his side claimed their first points.

At Easingwold, Huby batted first and both openers were soon out.

Huby continued to attack and after eight overs were 84-8, Sean Dixon having made 19 while Steven Piercy had reached 50. Easingwold hit back through spinners Rowan Capper (3-11) and Josh Summerscales (4-28) and Huby were all out for 110, before the rain prevented an Easingwold response.
