Stockton & Hopgrove kept themselves in front of season-long rivals Londesborough Park to claim their second piece of Foss Evening Cricket League silverware in three summers.

To confirm the division one crown, they defeated Bubwith by 25 runs thanks to a superb all-round performance from Jamie Ross.

Out of Stockton’s 109-4 total he was unbeaten on 41 with Tom Williams hitting 26 not out.

Ross then took 3-32 to follow Matt Bradshaw’s 2-10 from four overs to keep Bubwith short of the required target.

Elsewhere in the top-flight, Dunnington claimed a victory over runners-up Stamford Bridge to secure fourth place, their highest finish since they last won the league. Ollie Pimlott (53no) and Will Parker (44) allowed Stamford to post a strong 142-4, but a trio of strong innings from Jack Bolam, who notched 53, Adam Iyer 30 and skipper Gareth Miles 26no led Dunnington to a six-wicket win with just two balls to spare.

York secured third place with a comfortable ten-wicket win over Westow. Matty Turnbull’s 74 was the bulk of Westow’s 105-8, while Charlie Elliot (68no) and Kyle Waite (43no) were York’s unparted openers in victory.

Sadly Heworth and Pocklington conceded to Woodhouse Grange and Osbaldwick respectively.

Despite a convincing victory over The Retreat, Londesborough Park missed out on the second division title by a single point, though they will return to the first division at the most immediate attempt.

Retreat were bundled out for just 54 and Londesborough took only 62 balls to knock off the runs with eight wickets still standing.

Yapham claimed a nine-wicket win over Aviva Vikings, which confirmed Yapham in third and relegated Aviva, largely due to a half-century from Nick Edwards. Aviva posted 100-5 in 18 overs and Edwards’ 57 led the young Yapham side to victory with an over to spare. After a tight scrape with relegation last summer it has been a commendable improvement for the Smylett Lane side under young captain Jack Holman.

Ovington claimed the third division title in only their second season in the League by defeating Fulfordgate. D Smith and Joe Whale were both undefeated on 37 from a total of 110-5. Fulfordgate fell 13 runs short, despite an unbeaten 41 from Dean Cairns.

Melbourne were promoted straight back to division two following last summer’s relegation by prevailing in their winner-takes-all shoot-out against Dunnington Academy.

Mike Millington, with 33, top-scored for Dunnington in their 70-9 knock against which Melbourne skipper Harry Collins led from the front with a 3-7 haul. AJ Clarke then muscled Melbourne over the line by eight wickets with 27.

Missing skipper Pete Fairburn due to a broken thumb, Heworth Colts finished a tough season with a victory that saw them finish fourth.

Askham Bryan, in their debut season, made 102-4 but Heworth were victors by eight wickets in reply.

Fairburn is standing down having managed the Colts since their admission to the league three years ago with Paul Whitley due to take over.

The Retreat II finished a much improved second season in the league with a victory over York RI, who ended up holding the wooden spoon.

York RI were dismissed for 78 as Ian Munro took 4-18 despite the league’s record-holding batsman Michael Charno top-scoring for the Railwaymen with 30.

The Retreat lost six wickets in getting over the line as Steve Jackson took 3-8 to hold up the visitors after solid innings from Zaheer Ahmed (33) and Bruce Kitchener (26).
