Foss Evening Cricket League: Title-chasing York beat the weather

ONLY two matches survived the downpours in week 12 of the Foss Evening Cricket League.

Title-chasing York played a full game at Heworth, clinching a last--over victory.

York made 93-9 with Ian Jarvis scoring 26 while Ian Middleton (3-23) and Tom Forsdike (3-27) both starred for Heworth.

In reply, Rich Walton (33) gave his side a good start but a spell of 4-14 in four overs from Graham Richmond meant Heworth needed nine runs off the last over. They needed four to win off the last ball but suffered a run out.

Stamford Bridge remain in pole position for the championship after Pocklington conceded.

One win from the last two games, against Woodhouse Grange and Dunnington, will see the Battle Axes crowned champions for the first time.

One more victory will see Osbaldwick promoted as champions of division two. In division three, Thixendale need one win from two games to take the second promotion place behind Heworth Colts.

Thixendale made 110-2 with Mike Hurst (33) and skipper Pete Stacey (27no) in the runs. The Retreat II fell 13 runs short despite 59 from Salman Syed.
