A midweek deluge meant that only two games in the Foss Evening Cricket League reached a conclusion.

The Retreat and Fulfordgate, in divisions two and three respectively, managed to steal a march on their rivals by claiming victories that move them both up to second place.

The Retreat recorded a comfortable eight-wicket victory against Heworth Colts, chasing down 88 with minimal fuss.

Tom Allan (24) top-scored for Heworth, while Salman Syed and Gareth Fenton claimed two wickets apiece.

Syed then struck an unbeaten 40, and he was abetted by Ryan Partington (33 not out) to steer The Retreat home and strengthen their promotion bid.

Fulfordgate continued their resurgent form with a narrow six-run victory over Dunnington Academy.

They posted 99-7 thanks to Stephen Rowe (22) and Mick Nelson (20) as Steve Dodsworth took 4-30.

Danny Andrew (30) and Ollie Stouter (27) gave Dunnington a solid start in response but they ultimtely fell short.

Similarly only two games survived the elements in the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League, both of them in division two.

Helperby were comprehensively victorious at Rowntrees to lift them to the summit of division two.

Dan Spink (53 ret) and Jonno Cannon (47 not out) were the main contributors to their total of 130-2, before Chris Fryer (3-21), C Corner (3-8) and G Swiers (2-14) restricted Rowntrees to 54-9.

Civil Service relinquished their top spot after a defeat at Alne, where Tom Shaw (50 retired) and Duncan Stirk (31) lifted the hosts to 131-4.

Civil Service made a spirited reply as Alex Ingram (31), Will Phelps (37) and Simon Desborough (24) got them to 114-7, but the efforts of Owen Smith (2-24) and Dan Raper (2-16) kept them at bay.

All of the division one fixtures made a start but were halted by the weather at the halfway stage.
