Heworth benefit from Woodhouse Grange and Barmby Moor losing in Foss Evening Cricket League

Defeats for leading sides, Woodhouse Grange and Barmby Moor, in the Foss Evening Cricket League brought Heworth back into an open title race.

Division one leaders Grange suffered their third defeat of the summer at Stamford Bridge, where only skipper Nick Hadfield (28) had an answer to Dave Chaplin’s leg-spin (4-23). Bridge stuttered in response to Grange’s 79-6 but got home with three wickets and three balls to spare thanks to Kev Smith’s 38.

Barmby Moor slipped to 18-4 at Dunnington, thanks to Rob Chipps’ burst of 3-14. Andrew Winn (34) and Charlie Cameron (31) were the main instigators of a recovery that saw Moor post a respectable 98-6.

Dunnington won with an over and seven wickets to spare as Joe Butcher hit an unbeaten 58.

Melbourne condemned Yapham to relegation by doling out a 47-run defeat on their opponents. Greg Nesbitt (64no) and John Chaplin (56) top-scored as Melbourne posted 140-3. Yapham mustered only 93.

Stockton and Hopgrove picked up a four-wicket win over Westow.
