The destination of the Foss Evening Cricket League title is still undecided after champions Woodhouse Grange beat Barmby Moor to go top by a point. With three matches left Grange are in pole position for a third consecutive title, but Moor may yet claim their first since 1982.
Barmby made a challenging total of 118-7 with many batters contributing, but Sam Appleton’s 36 was the top effort. Woodhouse’s Tom Quinn (57no) combined with James Rudd (39) to post a century opening stand and speed them to a win by nine wickets.
Heworth still have a chance of runners-up spot, should either of the top two slip up, after a victory over Stamford Bridge. Matt Beckett (47no) and Ian Henderson (36) led Bridge to 119-1. A half-century from skipper Rich Winterburn (50) saw Heworth home by five wickets despite Olly Pimlott’s 3-22.
Melbourne beat Dunnington to virtually assure their division one status. Dunnington posted 122-5, but Melbourne’s Alex Downey (44), Eddie Oliver (27no) and Ben Rees (25) were in the runs as they won by eight wickets.
Wheldrake won a tight match at Yapham by three runs. Wheldrake made 80-4 and were able to restrict Yapham to 77-4 in reply and the East Yorkshire side now need to win all of their remaining games to stay up.
The top three sides in division two are covered by two points. Londesborough Park top the division after a victory at Westow. James Beevers (45) and Andy Copeland (36) led Park to 139-3 and Westow closed on 92-2.
Heworth Colts are a point behind Park after their match at Thixendale was rained off.
The Retreat are third following a big win over Cueball. Adam Mosely made 72 not out in their 33-run win.
