Stamford Bridge head Foss Evening Cricket League run spree


BATSMAN thrived in the recent heatwave as more than 1,600 runs were notched in week nine of the Foss Evening League.

Stamford Bridge rattled up the biggest score as Olly Pimlott struck 83 and David Chaplin 57 to lead them to 193-5. Dunnington mustered just 71-8 in reply.

Heworth made hay at Yapham, scoring 189 without loss. Geoff McShane (89 not out) top-scored, Rich Walton retired for 54 and brother Dan chipped in with an undefeated 29.

Trev Walton (3-29) completed the family affair as Yapham were bowled out for 97 of which Matt Booth hit 32.

Barmby Moor continue to put pressure on Woodhouse Grange with a 77-run win at Wheldrake. Andrew Winn (94no) raised the bar for the highest score of the season in Barmby’s 153-6. Chris Walker took 3-29. Wheldrake struggled to 76 all out as Barmby skipper Tony Smith took 3-5 from five overs and Jimmy Nightingale 3-31.

In division two, Heworth Colts head the rankings after winning the top of the table encounter with Londesborough Park. Tim Nettleton (54) and Steve Dawson (32) added 76 for the first wicket but Martin Boothroyd’s 4-30, plus two wickets and two catches for Arron Solanki, held Londesborough to 143-7. Heworth paced their chase to perfection, Will Rymer hitting a four from the last ball to win by five wickets.

The Retreat made hard work of their game against Stockton and Hopgrove. Having bowled the visitors out for 74, they won off the penultimate ball with only one wicket standing.

Debutant Dinuk Mirando was the star following his 3-3 haul with 22 not out, including a six and four in the last over to get the 12 runs required for victory.
