DUNNINGTON proved too powerful for their Academy side in the opening round of Foss Evening League fixtures.

The Academy were restricted to 94-5, a total which the seniors overhauled for the loss of just one wicket to win the first-ever derby, wicketkeeper-batsman Dan Barrett finishing unbeaten on 49.

Bubwith edged a young York team by two runs at Clifton Park.

Richard Readman struck 25 for the villagers before holing out to mid-on and Eddie Oliver made a well-constructed 34. The introduction of 13-year-old Harvey Gration (2-9) slowed Bubwith to 95-6 from their 18 overs.

Ben Harris (35) and Charlie Elliott (21) got York to the last over when 11 were needed. Bowler Guy Brumfield held his nerve despite being hit for a six by Elliott.

North Dalton cruised past Pocklington by 10 wickets. Pock made 113-6 after being 16-4, Mark Brent taking 3-29. Unbeaten openers Ricky Woodmansey (72no) and Mark Clarkson (25no) breezed to Dalton’s target.

Promoted Retreat I started life in division two with a nine-wicket win at Melbourne. Adam Mosley took 3-2, Ali Byers 3-15 and Graeme Byrne 2-8 to decimate Melbourne. Retreat took 7.3 overs to knock off the runs, Angus Campbell hitting 40 not out.

Barmby Moor’s return to Foss League action ended in a seven-wicket defeat against Bishop Wilton.

Opener Thomas Stubley (45) helped Moor to 101-6. Will Cardy took four wickets in a tight four-over spell and an unbeaten partnership between Joe Moore (44no) and Matthew Jones (28no) saw Bishops home with seven balls remaining.

Yapham had four deliveries in hand as they knocked off Heworth’s 130-8 for the loss of six wickets. Chris Barrett struck at almost a run a ball for his 52 for Heworth.

Thirteen-year-old Bishopthorpe spinner Joe Stowe, making his evening league debut, took 3-24 to support Tom Anderson (4-10) to bowls Stockton & Hopgrove out for 81.

Bish wobbled to 17-4, James Smith taking 3-22, but an unbroken partnership of 67 between Ben Smith (37no) and Jamie Blackburn saw them home.

Ben Corner (35) came close to scoring six sixes in as over as Thixendale stormed to victory against Retreat II.

He smashed five maximums in an over to propel the village side to a three-wicket win after Retreat could only post 72-4.

Stamford Bridge Academy made a winning start in division three by beating their Woodhouse Grange counterparts thanks to Tom Lawson’s 51.

A minute’s silence was held before the Westow v Aviva Vikings match to mark the passing of Westow scorer June Coverdale.

Westow went on to win by 10 wickets. Needing 83-6, they were never in any trouble thanks to James Wood (28no) and Matthew Shipley (42no).

Heworth Colts were thumped by Ovington, Stefan Littlewood smashing 11 fours and a six in an unbeaten 63. Heworth’s Peter Fairburn (33) and Steven Gillies (17) added 50 for the third wicket but, with Jed Fowke picking up 3-17, Heworth subsided to 87-8.
