BARMBY MOOR'S cricket team has re-formed and will play in the Foss Evening League next season.

The club folded a few seasons ago but now has enough village-based players to return to competitive action. During the club's dormant period the Barmby Moor village knockout competition continued and the club have a groundsman in place to look after their Flat Lane ground.

Also elected at the Foss annual general meeting at Dunnington on Wednesday, December 9 were development sides from Woodhouse Grange and Stamford Bridge, Grange's young development team is joining after playing in the now defunct Pocklington Evening League.

Bridge's youngsters come into the Foss and will play their home games at Burythorpe but Bridge's first division side have resigned. Bridge's first team is in the new ECB Premier League as part of the revamped York and District Senior League and have set aside Wednesday nights as practice nights and that would clash with FEL fixtures.

Heworth Nomads who finished bottom of the Foss division three last season also resigned but Ovington, who were forced to apply for re-election after failing to fulfil two league fixtures in 2015, were unanimously given the green light.

An Aviva Vikings suggestion that if disagreement about the overs to be played then the side to bat last should decide was defeated.

Both proposals to revoke rule 27 (ban on professional players) were defeated and the rule remains as was for all divisions.

Possible fielding restrictions will be referred to committee for consultation and report.

The structure of the FEL for 2016 will be drawn up by the committee early in the New Year who will also appoint a new chairman to replace Chris Robinson who has stepped down. New committee members are Ian Holmes, Gary Andrew, Neil Readman and Adam Mosley

The league intends to consultation with clubs about the future of the league, which is bucking the trend and thriving in terms of club numbers.

Things being considered at to introduce the term T20 in the league's title, whether all, or some, of the evening cricket should become eight-a-side to increase the individual participation of the players in each, fielding restrictions and limits on a batsman's score.

There will be a Foss Representative 20/20 match against a touring side from East Sussex at Woodhouse Grange on Friday, July 15. Anyone interested in playing should email Dan Blake at blake687@btinternet.com or phone 07834 097661 with their contact details, mobile phone number and batting or bowling preference.
