DUNNINGTON hauled themselves back into Foss Evening League division one title contention by beating Pocklington by eight wickets.

They occupy joint second place with North Dalton, who defeated Heworth, four points behind leaders Woodhouse Grange who were surprisingly beaten by lowly Stamford Bridge.

Opener Chris Smith (43) and a brutal 44 by Mark Holmes saw Bridge rack up 144-4. Grange finished 16 runs short on 128-3, Nathan Saltmer scoring 46.

Dunnington bowled out Pocklington after 17.2 overs as slow bowler Sam Tattersall (4-21) ripped through the card. Dunnington reached their target in 16 overs as Jake Murphy struck an unbeaten 60.

North Dalton remained in the hunt by beating Heworth, whose 116-9 was largely thanks to an unbeaten 36 from Neil Martin, batting at No 8. James Nesfield took 4-9 but the performance of the night came from young left-armer Jack Conner who took 3-20 and would have claimed his first five-wicket haul but for dropped catches.

Bubwith are on the brink of promotion from division two after overpowering nearest challengers Dunnington Academy, who were restricted to 72-8 off 20 overs, James Nightingale took two wickets in his first over, repeating the feat in his second over before finishing with 6-16 from five overs. Richard Readman (54no) and Charles Lambert (16) knocked off the runs in 9.1 overs, Readman striking four fours and three sixes.

Nine-man Melbourne recovered from 37-5 to post 97 against Stockton & Hopgrove whose fifteen-year-old Tom Warrington took 5-31 for victorious Stockton.

Ovington had five ducks in their total of 38 against fellow strugglers Yapham. Jamie Creaser, aged 14, demolished the Knavesmire side, taking 4-8 in five overs. Yapham only took six overs to get the runs needed.

The Retreat 1st XI clinched the division three title in style with an emphatic victory over an under-strength Westow, who collapsed from 62-2 to 89 all out. Suranga Uragaha continuing his fine season for Retreat with 51 not out.

Thixendale amassed a match-winning 167-3 against Heworth Nomads with Joe Robinson (100) almost carrying his bat - being bowled on the penultimate ball. He got great support from Alex Machen (43). Nomads put up a game fight with Greg Sykes hitting 77 but Thixendale eventually ran out comfortable winners thanks to Machen's 4-38 to add to his good batting score.

Heworth Colts maintained their good run of recent form with a crushing eight-wicket win against Aviva Vikings. Micky Bristow and Paul Whitley tore through the Vikings batting line-up, both recording figures of 4-12. The Colts cruised to victory in 11 overs thanks in the main to an unbeaten knock of 44 by Andy Armstrong.
