HEAVY downpours prevented any Foss Evening League games from reaching a conclusion last week.

However, division one leaders Woodhouse Grange were the big winners as opponents Heworth conceded their game, enabling Grange to bank three points while everyone else took one point.

That leaves them with a five-point advantage over nearest rivals Osbaldwick with four games to play.

Dunnington's Adam Sutcliffe was unbeaten on 27 against Osbaldwick when rain caused the game to be abandoned after 11.4 overs with the Common Road side on 67-4.

Paul Van Dijk continued his good form for division two leaders Bubwith with 56 against Melbourne before Sam Appleton hit 44 not off 19 balls. Bubwith posted 162-4 in 18 overs. In reply, Melbourne reached 14-1 before rain stopped play.

Yapham were 11 without loss after two overs when their game against Bishopthorpe was abandoned.

Rich Kerrison rattled up an unbeaten 35 and Sean Leetham 21 as Stockton & Hopgrove moved on to 57-3 after ten overs when the heavens opened. Arran Reed had excellent figures of 4-1-9-2.

Londesborough Park reached 69-4 off 14 overs against Ovington before the rain won. Ovington used eight bowlers with Dom Kitching (3-0-12-2) and Craig Nicoll (2-0-4-1) starring. Greg Drewery (25) and J Todd (26no) got the bulk of Londesborough's total.

Heworth Nomads were saved by the rain as they limped to 38-6 wickets against Retreat 2. Bruce Kitchener (2-3) and Kudrat Ali (2-8) were the chief tormentors, supported by a wicket each for Chris Thompson on his return from Lancaster University, and Ian Munro. Only Peter Fairburn (18no) provided any resistance for the Nomads.

Bishop Wilton got off to a poor start against Westow, falling to 16-3 off their opening six overs. Jamie Smith (1-5) and Will Hughes (2-12) did the early damage. D Lucas and Josh Britland put on 38 for the fourth wicket after the first rain interruption and pushed Bishop Wilton's score onto 54-4, before Britland was caught behind by Chris Inman off Joe Simpson.

Will Cardy moved the score on more to 73, before Lucas was out thanks to a brilliant caught and bowled by Ted Hughes. Eighteen runs came from the last two overs and Bishop Wilton set Westow a target of 96 to win off 18 overs.

Will Hughes was the stand out bowler and was well supported by Ted Hughes (1-21) and Simpson (2-24). The rain arrived before Westow could start their run chase.

Heworth Colts started strongly against Tang Hall Tigers with Chris Barratt making a brisk 22 before being run out.

Backing up at the non-striker's end, the ball was hit straight back at the bowler and struck him on the foot before being diverted onto the stumps. After his dismissal, the Tigers slowed the run rate but after 11 overs the rain came and the match was abandoned with their total on 56-2.

After five weeks free from weather interference, the rain obliterated the tenth round of fixtures in the Pilmoor Evening Cricket League. It arrived in the early evening after most teams had travelled and, although four games managed to start, they had to be abandoned in the early stages.
