WOODHOUSE Grange took another step towards the Foss Evening Cricket League first division title with victory over holders York.

Their seven-wicket win leaves them with a seven-point lead at the top at the half-way stage of the season.

Jonny Moxon hit 50 in York's 111-6, which included three run outs, but Matt Durkin (80) and Matthew Procter (29no) set up Grange's easy win.

Heworth broke their duck by beating Pocklington as Rich Winterburn (31) and Tom Neal (30) helped them to 111-8. Martyn Boothroyd's 4-29 earned the Elm Park Way side a six-wicket win despite 40 from Pock's Neil Jackson.

Dunnington were undone by the Brent brothers of North Dalton. They produced a good late partnership to get Dalton to 96-6 from 18 overs. Then David Brent (3-12) included a triple wicket maiden in the final over after sibling Mike had taken 3-28 as Dunnington closed on 83-9.

An inexperienced Yapham side ran division two leaders Bubwith close. Neil Readman was the backbone of Bubwith's innings with 33 as they made 119-6. In reply, Carl Brewer (46) looked to be taking the game away from Bubwith.

But brilliance in the field changed the game and Yapham pulled up seven runs short.

All-rounder Craig Nicoll was Ovington's match-winner against Dunnington Academy.

Stockton & Hopgrove got off to a flier against Londesborough Park with Rich Kerrison (23) and Giles Smith (96) in form before Smith enjoyed a 93-run partnership with Sean Leetham (21) as Stockton totalled 170-4.

P Goddard (91) was the only Londesborough batsman to reach double figures as they lost by 48 runs.

Mark Ford's good hitting continued with 39 from 20 balls against Melbourne. Ian Holmes took over to score 41 not out and Andy Kenny crashed the winning runs with a boundary from his only ball faced. Earlier, Guy Mowbray took four of the Melbourne wickets in their 118 all out.

In the first Foss match between both Retreat teams, it was the first XI who came out on top by 88 runs in division three. In the process they broke their club record highest Foss League total as they posted a massive 211-2.

Suranga Uragaha (38) and Phil Holland (34) put on 72 for the first wicket before Abdul Khan (56no) and Salman Syed (48no) hit 98 in the last five overs. Khan was particularly brutal on Nasir Shefta - dispatching him for five straight sixes as he finished with 0-30 from one over.

Joe Franklin grabbed a hat-trick for Bishop Wilton as they beat Heworth Nomads by 39 runs, Greg Sykes striking 54 for Nomads.

Heworth Colts were handily placed a few times but didn’t quite reach the target set by Tang Hall Tigers despite the best efforts of Tom Matthewson (45) and Chris Barratt (33).

Kush Sehgal's unbeaten 71 was the highest individual innings by an Aviva Vikings batsman. He also took three catches and claimed his first-ever wicket in the win against Thixendale.
