RAIN ruined the top of the table clash between York and Woodhouse Grange in division one of the Foss Evening Cricket League.

In the four years since York joined the league, this fixture has only finished once with absolutely no play on five other occasions.

The latest match between the two sides - which could well have decided the destiny of this year’s championship - was rained off after Woodhouse had amassed a challenging total of 141-2 in 16 overs.

The runs came from Chris Bilton (45), Matt Durkin (38), Chris Suddaby (37) and Mike Hattee (17).

Melbourne and Heworth were also rained off after the completion of the first innings at Elmpark Way. Ian Kirby top-scored for Melbourne with 28 in their 108-5, Rich Walton picking up 3-26.

Stamford Bridge were the only side to force a positive result on the field, with victory at Dunnington.

Danny Harper’s 43 was the mainstay of the Battle Axes' score of 115-5. Jack Bolam (33) tried his best to chase the target but veteran seamer Des Healy (3-30) pulled the game in Stamford’s favour.

Londesborough Park conceded to Osbaldwick with Park dropping into the relegation zone and Osbaldwick rising back out.

Two points from the remaining four division two games will see North Dalton promoted to the top flight at the first attempt after victory at Dunnington Academy.

C Robb’s 4-20 countered the batting efforts of Josh Archer (27) and Jonny Andrew (23) to see the Academy post 87-6. Shaun Tate (34no), Jamie Nesfield (21) and G Robb (20no) led the chase with seven wickets and eight balls to spare.

Yapham captain Jack Holman continued his sublime recent form with an unbeaten 53 to lead his side home by nine wickets against The Retreat.

Rich Carroll’s 35 top-scored in Retreat’s 85-3 before Martin Pearson (23no) supported his captain in Yapham’s response.

Thixendale conceded their match against Stockton & Hopgrove.

In division three, Bubwith’s eighth victory of the season means they need only a point from the final four games to ensure an immediate return to the second tier.

N Elliott (28) was Bubwith’s top scorer in setting 100-9 against Bishop Wilton at Worsendale Road, home skipper Dan Blake taking 3-22.

Blake (28) also starred with the bat for Bishop Wilton, with support from A Brown (29), but F Van Der Borch’s 3-14 held the home side just short at 93-8.

Ovington are still hot on the heels of Bubwith after another all-round performance from Craig Nichol inspired the Knavesmire side to a seventh victory of the season.

Nichol hit 40 as his side made 133-5 at Aviva Vikings, and he followed with 3-23 to leave the Vikings well short at 75-5.

Suranga Uragaha shone as Retreat II picked up a comfortable eight-wicket victory against Heworth Colts.

Joel Johnson top scored with 48 in the Colts' total of 113-8 as Uragaha took 3-28. Uragaha then made an unbeaten 53 to lead his side home.

The match between Heworth Nomads and Tang Hall Tigers was rained off at the halfway stage, with the Nomads having made 113.
