THE top seven teams in division one of the Foss Evening Cricket League are separated by a single point.

Champions Woodhouse Grange went joint top following a seven-wicket win over bottom side Melbourne.

Grange were made to work hard to chase down Melbourne’s 80-6, but Mike Hattee stroked a calm unbeaten 50 to claim a seven-wicket victory.

York gave joint leaders Osbaldwick a nine-wicket beating. Leg-spinner Kal Ahmed took 4-12 as Osbaldwick were rolled over for just 50 and York won the game with a six as Jake Murphy top-scored with 18 not out.

Londesborough Park claimed a huge win at Stamford Bridge to put themselves in the title mix.

Park totalled 125-6 and Phil Hill (48) was the only batsman to counter Tom Sowersby (4-26) and James Beevers (3-10) as the Battle Axes were rolled over for 80 with ten balls of the innings unused.

Jack Bolam hit 81 not out to inspire Dunnington to a nine-wicket victory over Heworth, who were bowled out for 118.

The top two in division Two met at Pocklington and North Dalton won by four runs.

Mark Clarkson (50) and skipper Ricky Woodmansey (37) led Dalton to 152-3, while Pock kept up with the rate thanks to Andy Anderson (36) and Sam Parkinson (31), countering Mike Brent’s 3-37.

Chris Saltmer (38) hit a six in the penultimate over to give Pock the chance of victory in the final over, but David Brent (4-22) claimed his wicket.

Dunnington Academy replaced Pocklington in the promotion places after a one run victory over Yapham.

Dan Andrew starred for the Academy, making 44 with the bat and taking 4-29 with the ball.

Dunnington made 110-5 and, although Martin Pearson (19) top scored for the hosts, Sam Gray and Sam Tattersall took two wickets each before a run out off the last ball sealed Yapham’s fate.

Bishopthorpe claimed their first win of the season, beating Thixendale.

Jamie Mackie took three wickets for the Bishops as Thixendale posted 137-7.

Bish won by seven wickets with an over to spare as Ross Kelly (56), skipper Scott Clapham (44no) and Ben Smith (25no) starred with the bat.

Stockton & Hopgrove picked up a four-wicket victory to consign The Retreat to bottom place.

Buddy Mirando (40) and Salman Syed (35) led The Retreat to 114-6. Giles Smith (28) led Stockton to the win, despite 3-21 from Nad Shefta.

Bubwith are making a strong case for an immediate return to division two after they picked up a fourth win of the summer, this time against Tang Hall Tigers.

Tang Hall Tigers made 79 against Simon Rushton (4-28) and Paul Van Dijk (3-16). Charlie Lambert (23) and Neil Readman (20no) saw the hosts home by four wickets to open up a three-point lead at the top.

Bishop Wilton maintained a promotion place with a four-run victory against Heworth Nomads.

Joe Moore made 66 in Wilton’s 120-5 and Pat Durkin 37 for the Nomads, who were unable to hit the boundary that would have got them a tie or a win from the last ball.

Aviva Vikings recovered from 33-4 as Carl Hodgson hit 81 in his side’s final total of 124-6. The Retreat II were restricted to 93-9, with Nasir Shefta (25) top-scoring.

Ovington posted the top score of the week with 168-2 in beating Heworth Colts, who made 121-8 in reply.
