OSBALDWICK moved into top spot in division one of the Foss Evening Cricket League for the first time in their history.
A 16-over game at the MCG saw Osbaldwick recover from a sluggish start against Melbourne as the in-form Johnny Rawsthorne hit 63 not out. With support from Matty Hattee (34), Osso posted 145-2.
The difference between the two promoted sides was then shown as youngsters A Oliver and Ben Richardson both took two wickets in restricting Melbourne to 84-7.
Previous leaders Stamford Bridge were toppled from the summit in defeat at Clifton Park. The Battle Axes posted 111-4 as R Stevens made an unbeaten 38 and Rory Smith took 2-19 for York. The hosts then chalked up their first win of the season as Nick Stephen’s 55 sealed a nine-wicket win.
Champions Woodhouse Grange were another side to chalk up their first win of the season. Grange held Dunnington to 74-9 thanks to the efforts of the Gilbank brothers, John (3-10) and Michael (3-17). Grange won by six wickets with 17 balls to spare.
Heworth moved into joint second with a convincing victory at Park Farm. Olly Sherwood (50) and Steve Baxter (29) powered Heworth to a commanding total of 155-5 before Rich Walton (3-16) and Tom Neal (3-22) ripped into the Londesborough line-up to leave them 81 short at 74-9.
North Dalton took the outright lead in division two with a six-wicket victory over Stockton & Hopgrove. Stockton made 100, with P Baustain unbeaten on 47, Sam Ulliott (4-8) and Mike Brent (3-17) sharing the wickets. Rob Bradley made 61 in Dalton’s reply.
Pocklington beat Dunnington Academy to leap-frog them into the promotion slots. Chris Saltmer (29) and Neal Jackson (28) resisted Sam Tattersall’s 4-20 as Pock made 114-5. Pock skipper Freddie Parry had the Academy in turmoil as his leg-spin took 4-12, Dunnington limping to 52-8.
Thixendale picked up their first win of the summer, handing out a defeat to The Retreat that drops them into the relegation places. Thix stalwart Nigel French made 57 to lead the visitors to 94-7 as Adam Mosley and Salman Syed took two wickets each. A trio of Thixendale bowlers - H Forbes (3-14), J Smith (3-21) and M Horner (2-10) - put the skids under The Retreat’s reply, which mustered 66-9.
In division three, The Retreat’s A Ferguson (77) and Zaheer Ahmed (70) combined for an opening stand of 154 in a team score of 155-2.
Tang Hall Tigers made a decent fist of the chase with Steve Clarke’s 68 taking them to 133-3, with Geoff Deighton taking 2-29.
The season’s highest score was chalked up by Bubwith as they made 191-2 at Heworth Colts. Bubwith went top outright as they restricted the Heworth youngsters to 152-9.
Ovington put paid to Bishop Wilton’s unbeaten start to the season. Pete Kelly made 47 not out in the Knavesmire side’s 103-6. Ben Busby claimed 4-11 as Wilton were 81-9.
