WOODHOUSE Grange suffered their first defeat of the Foss Evening Cricket League campaign, losing to division one title rivals Londesborough Park.

Park’s nine-wicket triumph closed the gap to five points at the top of the table and they have a game in hand, but Grange are still only one win from retaining their crown.

Chris Bilton was the stand alone Woodhouse batsman as he hit 30 in their 103-6 as Tom Sowersby took 5-21. James Hanley, with an unbeaten 51, and Steve Dawson, who hit 42 not out, then helped Park preserve their unbeaten home record.

They won with five overs to spare.

York picked up their third win of an indifferent season as youngster Kieron Bloor hit an unbeaten 72 and Rich Love 36 in a total of 142-4 against Heworth. Love then took 3-12 in a three-over burst as Heworth fell 22 runs short, despite 42 from Sam Linguard.

Dunnington virtually condemned opponents Stockton & Hopgrove to relegation with a rapid eight-wicket victory. Matt Durkin made an unbeaten 51 as Stockton mustered only 87-6. Dan Barrett then hit a rapid-fire 64 not out as Dunnington knocked off the runs in only 52 balls.

Winless Stockton have amassed only three points from their nine matches.

The division two promotion race took a twist as Melbourne suffered a third defeat and Pocklington conceded to Ovington due to a number of players attending Driffield Show.

Those results allowed Osbaldwick to leap into second place with a win over The Retreat.

Bottom side Bubwith breathed life into their survival bid thanks to an unbeaten century from Charlie Lambert.

He finished on 102 as his efforts underpinned a total of 142-6. Stu Watson hit 34 and Scott Clapham contributed 31 for the Bishops, but they failed to keep up with the rate and fell short at 102-5. The bottom four sides are covered by only three points with three weeks of the season remaining.

Dunnington Academy ran out easy winners in the battle of division three’s top two at Aviva Vikings. Dunnington skipper Josh Tattersall cracked 53 and vice-captain Jonny Andrew 47 to set their side off to a great start and they posted 177-6, John Hughes taking 3-26. Aviva were quickly in trouble at 15-3 in reply before a partnership between Hovell (45) and T Owen (25) took them to 92-3.

However, they suffered another collapse to 103 all out, with James Hall, Greg Ashcroft, Tattersall and Alex Wilson all claiming two wickets.

Thixendale, looking to return to division two at the first attempt, jumped into second place with a win over Retreat II despite four wickets from Luke Morgan restricting them to 114. Morgan and Bruce Kitchener then made 25 apiece, but Adrian Brader’s 3-13 ensured Retreat were bowled out for 97.
