REIGNING champions Woodhouse Grange snatched a last-ball victory over Stamford Bridge in division one of the Foss Evening Cricket League.

Leaders Grange were led by stand-in skipper Chris Bilton and fielded seven under-16s in a team with no one older than 22. The Battle Axes set them a stiff target of 135 thanks to 48 from Phil Hill and 25 from Ollie Pimlott.

Grange were then indebted to their older heads as Mike Hattee (46) and Matthew Shepherd (20) saw them over the line by five wickets, with the winning run coming from the last delivery.

Londesborough Park moved into second place by completing a double over York. Skipper Mike Drewery (40no) was assisted by brother Greg (29) and James Beevers (27) as Park posted 125-4. York were held 18 runs short at 107-8, with Tom Forsdyke top-scoring (29no).

Londesborough need to win next week at home to Grange to prevent the visitors wrapping up the title.

Heworth cantered home by eight wickets against Dunnington as Rich Walton (50) and Sam Linguard (44) made a large hole in the chase of Dunnington’s 115-5, in which Adam Iyer had top-scored with 56.

Osbaldwick beat Pocklington by two runs to spice up the race for the second promotion place from division two.

Osbaldwick and Pocklington are now on 19 points with Bishopthorpe. Alex Rippon was the star for Osbaldwick as his 5-19 helped to bowl Pock out for 118 with the penultimate ball of the match, despite 53 from skipper Alex Downey. Earlier, Rippon made an unbeaten 25 to support Drew Horner (27) as Osbaldwick made 120-6.

Bishopthorpe could have pulled clear in second place but were upset by Ovington. Scott Clapham made 49 in the Bishops’ 146-5, with 13-year-old Charlie Buckley taking 1-12 from four overs.

R Kelly (62no) and Joe Whale (30) got the Knavesmire side off to a strong start in reply before Tom Cookson (40no) took them to a nine-wicket win.

Melbourne got their title campaign back on track with a 25-run victory over The Retreat. Freddie Collins made 49 in Melbourne’s 124-7 and followed it up with figures of 4-10 as Retreat only managed 99-6.

Bubwith beat Yapham and dragged them into the bottom two. Yapham skipper Jack Holman (36) top-scored in his side’s 90-6. Charlie Lambert made 30 to see Bubwith home by six wickets.

Heworth Colts ended Dunnington Academy’s unbeaten run in division three with a 12-run victory. York RI claimed a three-wicket win despite 85 from Fulfordgate’s Dan Fairclough.
