York and Dunnington recorded the first tie of the Foss Evening Cricket League division one season – the first under the new points scoring system.

Dunnington skipper Gareth Miles (44 not out) and Adam Iyer (36) were the main contributors as the visitors set a 122 target.

Russ Bowry (41) and Matt Hodsdon (36) led York’s reply only for it to be scuppered by the efforts of theirformer player Josh Barrett, who took 3-33.

The share-all allowed current pace-setters Woodhouse Grange to extend their lead after a tight two-run victory at Heworth. Nick Hadfield (61) and Mike Hattee (28) were key in Grange posting 119-3.

Richard Walton hit 41 in Heworth’s innings but two wickets from Michael Gilbank and a tight spell from Hattee (4-0-14-0) left the home side requiring eight from the last six balls.

Grange skipper Andrew Bilton took the last over, his solitary one of the innings, and hauled in 2-5 to leave Heworth short and in a pack of three teams seven points behind Woodhouse.

Stamford Bridge moved into second thanks to a 32-run victory at Stockton & Hopgrove.

Phil Hill was unbeaten on 62 and Danny Harper hit 52 to power Bridge to 132-2. Matt Durkin (51no), one of the heaviest scorers in division two last summer, made his first half-century in division one but it wasn’t enough for Stockton to break their duck.

Melbourne and Pocklington, the leading sides in division two, fought out a fiercely-contested match at Burnby Lane in which the visitors prevailed to extend their advantage.

Melbourne openers A J Clarke (69no) and Tim Blackmore (65no) were not separated in posting 141.

Pocklington were left 33 runs short as Ted Donkin (61) was the hosts’ stand-alone batsman of note.

The visiting openers were also unbeaten at The Retreat as Bubwith upset the form-book with a first win of the season.

Rich Readman (88no) and Sean Houltham (53no) led Bubwith to 151-0 before their bowlers limited Retreat to 137-6 – Ryan Partington (43) and Salman Syed (33) in the runs again.

Osbaldwick made it three wins in the last four to sit in a group of three teams on 13 points, after a 14-run triumph at Ovington.

Tom Young (36) continued his good recent form, but Harry Buckley’s 4-27 kept Osso in check at 113-6.

R Kelly (49) and Tom Cookson (30) made substantial inroads into the chase, but their run rate was not quick enough.

Bishopthorpe beat Yapham after they looked to have it all to do when dismissed for 87. Yapham’s batting, however, struggled even more as they only mustered 66-9.

Dunnington Academy are looking increasing favourites for division three promotion after a five-wicket win over Retreat II.

Z Ahmed made 46 in Retreat’s 92-7 as two wickets each for Sam Gray and Paul Tattersall keeping the visitors under control.

Dunnington romped home with more than four overs and five wickets to spare, Sam Clough top scoring on 26.

Aviva Vikings’ five-match unbeaten run was brought to a halt at Thixendale. Sunny Sharma and Abhishek Galoda both made 34 as the Vikings posted 127-5.

But Thixendale cruised home by eight wickets with an over to spare. Joe Robinson (43) and Henry Forbes (35) were the main contributors.

Heworth Colts player Will Rymer made a telling contribution on his return from six weeks out with a broken wrist.

Rymer made 46 from 28 balls to help his side to chase down victory by four wickets, despite another fruitful spell from Fulfordgate’s Patrick Durkin, who took (3-18). Earlier Fulfordgate totalled 84-5.
