Adam Sutcliffe made an unbeaten 88 to lift Dunnington off the foot of division one in the Foss Evening Cricket League.

Sutcliffe’s knock helped his side win by two runs in a high-scoring encounter at Stamford Bridge. Captain Adam Iyer supported him with 29, allowing Dunnington to post 151-2. Despite the efforts of Danny Harper (54) and Dom Rhodes (43), the Battle Axes came up just short.

Heworth defeated second-placed Londesborough Park by two wickets thanks to skipper Andrew Simpson, who hit 54. G Hall also made 28 as they chased down their target, despite Nathan Saltmer’s 3-13. Earlier Stephen Davidson made 51 in Park’s 115-6.

York leapfrogged into second by beating Stockton & Hopgrove. Stockton were restricted to 101-7 and York then loaned them some substitute fielders before winning by eight wickets.

Melbourne’s unbeaten start to the division two season was brought to an end by a superb all-round performance from Osbaldwick’s Tom Young.

Young smashed 50 in Osso’s total of 117-6, AJ Clarke picking up two wickets for Melbourne. Freddie Collins then made 34 for the home side but a miserly four overs from Young (2-6) ensured Melbourne were 18 short at 99-9.

The Retreat cut Melbourne’s lead to two points, beating Yapham by nine wickets. Adam Mosely (3-20) and Salman Syed (3-21) had Yapham all out for 98, despite 28 from Martin Pearson.

Retreat won by nine balls to spare, with Zaheer Ahmed (39), Nasir Shefta (37no) and Syed (23no) making the runs.

Ovington won the battle of the bottom two against Bubwith. Sean Houltham made an unbeaten 73 for Bubwith to lead his side to 133-4. That proved to be insufficient as Pete Kelly (64) and Tom Cookson (40) shared a 104-run opening stand as the home side won by eight wickets with three balls to spare.

Dunnington Academy extended their lead to three points in division three as they beat second-placed York RI. Grant Bulmer (3-2) and Eshan Malhotra (4-16) bundled out the Railwaymen for 64. RI’s D Smith then took 3-7 by the hosts won by four wickets.

Aviva Vikings moved into the promotion places by claiming a four-wicket win against Heworth Colts. Heworth were bowled out for 104 and the Vikings made 105-6 in reply.

Thixendale beat Fulfordgate by nine wickets with 15 balls to spare thanks to a 110-run opening stand. Joe Robinson made an unbeaten 54 to lead Thix past Fulfordgate’s 117-4.

The Retreat II’s Danny Cameron (64) and Gareth Fenton (50) added 122 for the second wicket in their 144-3 to beat Askham Bryan by 20 runs.
