Mike Hattee, the former Osbaldwick captain, put in a fine all-round performance at Dunnington to take Woodhouse Grange clear at the top of the Foss Evening Cricket League division one.

In the only top-flight game to survive the weather, Hattee’s 28 allied with 26 from Grange skipper Andrew Bilton allowed the champions to post 123-6.

Hattee then completed a dream week. Having taken six wickets and made 97 not out in the Senior League, he struck with 3-13 in three overs to leave Dunnington ten runs short, despite 47 from 14-year-old Tom Loten.

Stockton & Hopgrove’s first home game in the first division, against Londesborough Park, along with the match between York and Stamford Bridge were victims of the weather. Heworth picked up three points as Westow were again unable to raise a side.

Melbourne moved to the top of division two after a narrow victory over their fellow promoted side Ovington. A J Clarke’s unbeaten 39 led Melbourne to 92-9, recovering from a burst from Brandon Bishop (4-19) that twice saw him on a hat-trick.

Pete Kelly (53) led the Knavesmire side’s response, but a spell of 3-11 from Melbourne skipper Harry Collins ensured his side prevailed by nine runs.

The Retreat are the other side in division two still to retain a 100 per cent record after a defeat of Bishopthorpe. Suranga Uhrangha (3-10) and Nadeem Shefta (3-15) took a brace of three-wicket hauls to reduce the Bishops to 72-8. The Retreat’s batting star, Salman Syed, then followed last week’s half-century with 43 as the home side chased down their target with six wickets and nearly five overs to spare.

Yapham bounced back from being unable to field a side last week by racing to victory against Osbaldwick. Keith Cartledge (27) was the only Osbaldwick batsman to make any impression in their total of 83 all out as Alex Nattrass took 4-10. Yapham then rattled up the runs required in just 11 overs with former skipper Tom Atkinson making 48.

Pocklington claimed an eight-wicket victory over Bubwith thanks to an unbeaten 63 from Neal Jackson. The former 1st XI captain, allied with an unbeaten 27 from Isaac Green, saw the Burnby Lane side home with nine balls to spare.

Earlier in the tussle, Bubwith posted 99-9 as Neil Pratt made 25 to counter bowlers Dan Croft and Robin Miller, who both took 3-22.

The two Academy sides, Dunnington and Heworth, have taken an early lead in the bottom division by maintaining 100 per cent records.

Heworth claimed victory with three wickets and three balls remaining as Matty Fairburn’s 28 saw the Elm Park Way youngsters chase down Retreat II’s 93-7.

Earlier, Retreat II’s batsmen had found it hard going, apart from A Ferguson, who made the bulk of the runs with 61.

Dunnington posted 92-7 and held off Fulfordgate by 17 runs.

Askham Bryan bounced back from being bowled out for 39 last week by claiming a narrow one-run victory over Aviva Vikings. Chris Copland made 31 as Askham posted 100-4. Sandeep Bhargava (28) and Jonathan Latham (26) looked to be taking the Vikings to a second victory but a run-out from the last ball of the match stole victory for the visitors.

The match between Thixendale and York RI was the only game outside of the top division to fall foul of the weather.
