Tom Chamberlain on target to keep York City youth team on top
10:18am Monday 22nd October 2012 in Sport
A GOAL two minutes from time by substitute Tom Chamberlain earned York City a 2-1 home victory over Bradford City, writes Ben Middleton.
The win, which also included a goal for Rob Moncur, stretched the Minstermites’ unbeaten run to nine games and kept them joint-top of the Football League Youth Alliance North East Conference Under-18s standings.
In an end to end start to the game, York were unlucky not to score from some good corners delivered by Ben Weir, with Ben Middleton and Tom Allan both narrowly missing with headers.
Bradford also put their bodies on the line when the ball fell in the box, with two or three shots blocked.
Other than a few shots from the edge of the box, which were saved well by Josh Archer, the home side were pretty comfortable at the back in a goalless first half.
At the start of the second half a corner was cleared to Danny Middleton, whose shot was finished with a great flick from Rob Moncur to put the hosts in front.
Bradford piled on the pressure and caught the back four off guard to level the scores.
Towards the end of the game, the fresh legs of Ollie Smith and Chamberlain paid off.
A mix up between Bradford’s centre-back and ’keeper gave Chamberlain an open goal and he got the winner.
York then defended well up to the final whistle.
