Scott Sullivan sparks Dunnington revival

PREMIER division leaders Dunnington were forced to come from behind against Huntington Rovers to preserve their unbeaten run in the York Minster Engineering Football League.

The 2-1 home victory extended Dunnington’s advantage at the top to seven points and they have now gone 17 games without defeat.

Huntington, undefeated in four games on the road, took the lead when a slide-rule through ball from Chris Dyson found Chris Johnson and he made no mistake in front of goal.

The second half was barely a minute old when Scott Sullivan equalised, and the win was secured ten minutes from time by Jimmy Willmoth.

Defending champions Old Malton St Mary’s suffered their first away defeat in 22 games as they lost 2-1 at Dringhouses.

The Ryedale side took an early lead courtesy of a Richard Dunning free-kick, but then conceded an own goal just before the break.

With five minutes remaining, it looked as though Malton were going to record their third consecutive draw but Liam Stilgoe scored direct from a corner to give Dringhouses maximum points.

Old Malton’s last away defeat was in April 2011 – at Dringhouses.

Poppleton were unfortunate not to collect at least a point from their visit to Copmanthorpe, but they went down 3-1.

A Mark Featherstone goal separated the sides at the break in favour of the hosts.

Nick Moss levelled in the second period, but two Robin Bedford goals in the last six minutes earned Cop a 3-1 win and consigned Pop to a 12th game without a win.

Aviva won the top-of-the-table clash in division one as they beat Pocklington 3-1.

After a goalless first half, the deadlock was broken by an unstoppable volley from Neil Richardson.

Warren Lowe doubled Aviva’s lead from the penalty spot and, although Dan O’Connor pulled a goal back for Pock with three minutes to go, Aviva still had time to add a third as Tom Shirley chipped the home ’keeper.

St Clement’s marked their first home fixture of the season with a 5-2 win over Haxby United.

Saints’ nap hand was shared between Jordan Hornby, Liam King, Scott Nicholas, Danny Adam and Chris Rowan.

Haxby, who led 2-1 at one stage, replied through James Gilbertson and Matthew Wash.

Malton & Norton needed a second-half penalty from Chris Hodgson to preserve their 19-match unbeaten run as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hemingbrough.

Harry Jackson had earlier given the visitors the lead.

Amotherby celebrated their first win in eight games, beating Tockwith 3-2 with goals from Ryan Boyd (2) and Andy Philips.

The hosts replied with a goal in each half, from Andy Walker and Graham Hutchinson.

Wilberfoss remain rooted to the foot of the division one table after they lost 3-1 at Total Sports United.

Daniel Palmer and Dean Walker scored in the first half for the home side and, although Robin Walker halved the deficit, Ben Brannigan scored for the fourth game on the trot to seal the win.
