Talented line-up for Malton Forest Rally

A STRONG field of more than 60 cars is expected to contest next month’s Malton Forest Rally.

World Rally cars entered for the Sunday, November 4 event include 2011 winner, Charlie Payne, of Ripon, in his Ford Focus, Thirsk’s Peter Stephenson in his Able Ports-sponsored Ford Focus and Steve Petch, of Scorton, in his Mitsubishi Evo.

A good list of historic cars is led by Bradford’s Tim Mason in his Porsche 911, with a host of Mk II Escorts including Steve Bannister, Andrew Siddall, Charlie Taylor and Steve Magson.

Starting from its new base at Dalby Forest Visitor Centre, the Malton event is a counting round for several regional championships and is the second round of the Yorkshire Winter Rally Challenge.

Stages in Langdale, Cropton and Gale Rigg forests will be used.

Navigator Jim Goodman, from Hunmanby, is celebrating 40 years of rallying by co-driving for Whitby’s Neil Cockerill in a Mk II Escort.

His first rally was the Scarborough Stages in 1972 navigating for Tony Drummond, also in an Escort.
