Squash: Wigginton put heat on Heaton

IT Sports Wigginton edged out fellow strugglers Heaton 3-2 in the Yorkshire Squash League premier division.

Reigning York champion Chris Rusling got Wiggy off to a flying start, beating Julian Tomlinson 3-2.

University of York student Ed Shannon made it 2-0 with a 3-1 success over Darren King.

Wigginton number one Pete Bilson was then surprisingly toppled 3-1 by Lewis Walters.

Josh Harris played some outstanding squash but went down in four games, losing 3-1 to Liam Gutcher.

With the match delicately poised at 2-2, Simon Myring sealed a Wigginton win with a thrilling 3-2 triumph against Heaton club pro Ian Woodhead.

Manager Ian Tooms said: “I was really pleased with the backing from the travelling Wigginton supporters and the 100 per cent effort from all the players.”
